We’ve just recently seen the closure of Muppets Courtyard, which will eventually become a new Monsters Inc. land for the park. But the changes don’t seem to be losing steam as Disney recently dropped a MAJOR update coming soon to one of its lands that fans have been saying could use some TLC for years!

Ever since Disney’s announcement of more changes coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, fans have been left in their feelings over it. Disney just revealed plans to revamp the current Animation Courtyard area of the park and transform it into The Walt Disney Studios.

Along with the announcement of the change, Disney also gave us a few details of what we can expect to find once it’s completed. In addition to the recently reopened The Little Mermaid – A Musical Journey show and existing Walt Disney Presents walkthrough exhibit,  more experiences focused on animation will be added to the area, including “The Magic of Disney Animation” and a playground called “Drawn to Wonderland,” which will be located indoors for younger children to enjoy. To share their vision, a few concept art pieces were teased of the revised area, which seems to have made all the difference to those who’ve been begging for nostalgic call backs to be added again to the park.

In the concept artwork, The Magic of Disney Animation appears to be located right behind a large Sorcerer Mickey hat (similar to what used to be a focal point of the park in the early 2000s), and will once again bring classes on how to draw some of our favorite Disney characters.

While several fans have already expressed their praise for this change, it’s also left some wondering what will become of the existing Star Wars Launch Bay offerings, including character meet and greets, props, and movie memorabilia, and they hope to see it relocated rather than removed altogether.

The center of the courtyard appears to introduce a new green patch of land we don’t currently see in this section of the park, and with plans to include an indoor playground for younger children, there are only so many more places that exist in this spot where this playground may choose to take up home. The Drawn to Wonderland playground will feature Alice in Wonderland theming in the style of the iconic Disney artist, Mary Blair, who’s also responsible for notable works like the murals inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort and the entire aesthetic of “it’s a small world” ride.

So far though, it seems that Disney fans are all aboard for these changes! We asked our readers their thoughts on the new announcements of what’s to come, and most of them were all for the new changes. One reader commented that Disney has “finally woke up and realized (they) had it right the first time.”

Others also expressed their support for the change, noting it was “finally something we actually want.” However, there were a few readers who expressed concern about the construction efforts and closures we could face shortly, which could affect their upcoming visits.

Disney did include that several of the current offerings around Animation Courtyard will be closing on September 25th after the run of the CoolKID Summer offerings has completed its residency in this area. Plans to reopen offerings within Animation Courtyard as The Walt Disney Studios are expected to be completed and made available to visitors in 2026.

  1. As long as Doc McStuffins Stays at the Parks, then that’s fine with me.

Hopefully she along with Vampirina and Fancy Nancy return to Echo Lake.
