Okay, This Is Officially the COOLEST Part of Magic Kingdom’s NEW Piston Peak ‘Cars’ Land

Everything you know about Magic Kingdom is about to change. The old rides, scenery, and story of Frontierland are changing in a BIG way to make room for a new Cars Land, officially known as Piston Peak National Park.

Howdy from Frontierland!

Now, your journey through Magic Kingdom will take you from northern colonial America in Liberty Square to the North Woods, then down south to New Orleans at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, ending in the Arizona bluffs at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.  So, where does Piston Peak fit in here, and what are we most excited about now that Disney just shared new details? We have a LOT to talk about, so let’s dive in!

Let’s start at the beginning. Piston Peak National Park is a new Cars-themed land that is part of the largest expansion in the history of Magic Kingdom.

Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, a new area themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness with two new attractions, including an off-road race.

The land will bring two new attractions to Magic Kingdom, including a rally race ride and a family-friendly ride. The atmosphere is inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and the American Frontier and its national parks.  Picture lots of trees, snowcapped mountains, waterfalls, rivers, and geysers.

Disney really seems to be emphasizing the change in atmosphere that Piston Peak promises to bring to Magic Kingdom. When this land is complete, Magic Kingdom will have “rugged mountains with dramatic peaks” and “soaring geysers from the famed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.” As you can see in the concept art, Disney isn’t kidding — we see some BIG mountain structures and tall, impressive trees lining the perimeter of the land.

Now, we’ve talked a LOT about the two new attractions coming to this area of the park. But recently, we learned a little more about the other things you can see and do in Piston Peak, and there’s one thing that really caught our attention. If you were paying attention, you might have noticed that Disney confirmed geysers (yes, geyserS plural) will be a big feature of the land. Given what we know about Piston Peak’s national park inspiration, we’re picturing some Yellowstone-esque details.

Look closely! In Disney’s new concept art, there’s a BIG geyser that seems to be erupting. Disney Imagineers revealed that this is Old Tankful. (Like Old Faithful, of course.) Old Tankful will erupt periodically throughout the day! That means as you’re racing through Piston Peak, you might just get lucky and witness an Old Tankful eruption.

Imagineers explained that the design is still a work in progress. We can’t wait to learn more! We know a lot of Disney fans are gonna miss the river surrounding Tom Sawyer Island, but it seems like Disney has plans to add a LOT of water features, waterfalls, and rainbow geysers to Piston Peak.
