We’re Sorry To Tell You, But Test Track Might Cause Problems at Disney World

Last June, Test Track closed to be reimagined as a third iteration of the ride. Test Track 3.0 is set to take inspiration from its predecessor, World of Motion.

While we don’t have an exact opening date, Disney did share that riders will once again be able to take a spin on the attraction when it opens later this summer. And, we’re sorry to tell you, but Test Track 3.0 might cause problems at Disney World.

We’re pretty excited about the reopening of Test Track at EPCOT, and we know we’re not the only ones. While Disney hasn’t shared an official reopening date or other details, we do know that it will be reopening later this summer — and it will likely cause problems when it does.

If Test Track reopens just as it did before — with a standby queue and Lightning Lane Multi Pass (though it was still called Genie+ when Test Track closed!) — then chances are it could be another ride folks run to at rope drop or during Early Entry. Test Track has always been an incredibly popular ride at this park, and we don’t anticipate that changing after it reopens. In fact, we expect the exact opposite. This could mean you need to update your rope drop strategy for EPCOT!

It’s possible that Test Track could reopen with a standby queue — but be added to Lightning Lane Single Pass instead. If that were the case, the rope drop point still stands, but you wouldn’t have to worry about trying to secure a Multi Pass for this ride — just a Single Pass.

And, when this ride does reopen, it will certainly have an impact on the wait times at other popular rides like Cosmic Rewind, Frozen Ever After, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure — which are all now standby rides as well.

The previous version of Test Track (2.0) featured a Single Rider Line — something we have seen pop up more and more at popular Disney World rides. As of now, Disney hasn’t confirmed whether this version of the ride will have a Single Rider Line. It’s possible that one may be built into the ride but just not used at first.

There is also the chance that Test Track could use a Virtual Queue when it reopens, but so far Disney hasn’t announced anything officially.

When new rides open at Disney World, a Virtual Queue tends to be used to help minimize ride wait times. Virtual Queues are just what they sound like — you are basically waiting in line virtually. At Disney World, you join a virtual queue through the My Disney Experience app, and you’re given a group number. You’ll get a notification on your phone when your number is called, and you then have an hour to go to the attraction, scan in, and ride.

And, while Disney has not confirmed this either, we expect that Test Track will use Muli Pass and not Single Pass(the attraction closed to be reimagined before the new Lighting Lane system replaced Genie+). If Test Track does not use Virtual Queue, it would be wise to make Test Track one of your top Multi Pass picks, especially when the ride first opens.

  1. I am quite anxious to see what Disney has up their sleeve for this version of Test Track. I was part of the very first GM Test Track attractions opening team. An exciting & quite stressful experience lol. Hold a special place with me… so many memories! So I’m looking forward to what comes next!

  2. I just can’t see a world where Test Track WON’T use a virtual queue upon reopening. It was wildly popular even in its previous iteration, and this is how Disney now tries to better manage large crowds for new ride openings (or re-opening, in this case).
