Everything We Know About Disney World’s NEW Monsters, Inc. Land (So Far)

While Disney’s upcoming Monsters, Inc. Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a bit of a hot topic right now, that still doesn’t change the fact that it’s on its way!

A new land themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Monsters, Inc.” is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Taking place after the events of the film, Monstropolis needs humans’ laughter to power the city. Guests can even ride on a door like Mike and Sully in the iconic scene from the film with Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster.

This past week, we got a TON of new information about this land that may feel a little overwhelming, so we figured it was time to back it all up and go over EVERYTHING we know about this upcoming land so we’re all on the same page.

Location

After weeks of waiting and wondering, Disney finally confirmed that the new Monsters, Inc. Land would be taking over Muppets Courtyard. This news saddened many Muppets fans, as it became a sad reality with the announcement that Muppet*Vision 3D would be no more, PizzeRizzo is going away (well, not many people were sad about that, we’ll be honest), and we’ll be saying goodbye to all the Muppets theming in that area.

However, there’s good news for Muppets fans! Disney is looking into how to preserve the Muppet*Vision 3D footage (no one’s totally sure what that means just yet), and the Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in its upcoming re-theme! So, while Muppets Courtyard will be no more, we’ll still have the Muppets in the park.

Attractions

We know that the big draw of this new land will be Disney’s first ever suspended coaster attraction! When talking about the new ride Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said, “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

We’re stoked for this new attraction, but that’s not all! Disney has also confirmed that a new show will be taking over the current Muppet*Vision 3D theater. No details have been released just yet on what this will be, but we do know this space will be used for a show attraction.

Disney has confirmed new dining locations coming to the land, as well. From the concept art we have so far, it appears that we know one restaurant will be in the new land — HarryHausen’s from the Monsters, Inc. film! At this time we don’t know what type of restaurant this will be, but we’re assuming it’ll be table service (similar to how Mama Melrose’s is in Muppets Courtyard right now), and we’re hoping to hear about a quick service restaurant that will move into PizzeRizzo’s current spot.

As for shops, Disney has confirmed new shopping locations in the land, but we’re not sure of their exact locations, yet. The concept art shows new shopping locations, and there is certainly plenty of room for it. We’re specifically hoping to see the current Stage 1 Company Store that’s been closed for years repurposed to use as a merchandise location.

Timeline

So this all sounds great, but when can we expect it to happen? We know that construction for the project is set to begin in 2025, but beyond that, everything’s a big question mark.

With construction beginning in 2025 it’s most likely we’ll see a 2026 or 2027 opening, but nothing is guaranteed at this time. This means that we’ll be seeing a LOT of construction in Disney World over the next few years, so if you’ve got a trip coming up, keep this in mind!
