If you love Disney World, we’ve gotta talk!

I know there are all kinds of changes happening at Disney World like renovations, expansions, and all-new construction, but I think we’d be forgiven to think that the classics would be around forever. Well, now that Disney has announced the permanent closures of some OG Disney attractions like Disneyland’s Red Car Trolley and Magic Kingdom’s Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America, it feels like nothing is safe. We’ve got our eyes on two beloved attractions and we’re feeling that they might be next.
As we were saying, these two rides just might be the next on the list to hit the chopping block — Muppet*Vision 3D and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster.
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster
First up, let’s talk about Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster. If you’ve ever felt your heart race while blasting off to Aerosmith’s “Sweet Emotion,” you know just how iconic this ride is.

But here’s the thing, this coaster has been around since 1999, and it’s not exactly the most reliable ride in the park. It goes down for repairs more often than we’d like to admit, which gets us worried that at some point Disney might decide that it’s just not worth the upkeep anymore.

Let’s be real, fixing a ride that’s over two decades old can’t be cheap, and at the end of the day, Disney is all about that ROI. With that in mind, it’s pretty easy to imagine a scenario where they decide to retire the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster and replace it with some shiny new attraction.

AND Aerosmith announced recently that the band will no longer tour. Could this mean the ride will fade even more from popularity?
We’re not saying it’s happening tomorrow. We’re not even saying that we’ve heard the slightest inkling about this, but the idea of losing that adrenaline-pumping launch and iconic soundtrack definitely has us on edge.
Muppet*Vision 3D
This show has been a quirky and lovable staple of Disney’s Hollywood Studios since 1991. It’s got that nostalgic charm that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like you got a hug from Kermit himself.

But here’s where things get dicey. If you look at the concept art for the new Monsters Inc. Land, some of it looks like this new land could take over the entire Muppet Courtyard, including Muppet*Vision 3D.

Yeah, you read that right.

To be sure, nothing’s been confirmed yet, the possibility is enough to make us quite nervous. Now, we get it. Disney has to evolve and keep things fresh in order to attract new guests, but the idea that newer IPs like Monsters Inc. could push out classics like Muppets has us feeling a bit protective.

There’s something irreplaceable about these attractions — a sense of history and magic that newer experiences just can’t replicate. Sure, we love Sulley and Mike as much as the next person, but does that mean we have to say goodbye to Kermit and Miss Piggy?

At the end of the day, while we’re excited for whatever new magic Disney has up their sleeves, we can’t help but hope that they’ll find a way to keep these iconic attractions around because sometimes, you just need a little rock ’n’ roll and some Muppet mischief in your life.
