A Disney World RELIC Is Disappearing Soon

Are you ready for all the changes coming to Disney World?

Magic Kingdom is losing Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America to get a new Cars land. A new villains-themed land is also coming to that park. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land. Over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Dinoland, U.S.A. is going away and will be re-themed into a Tropical Americas area called Pueblo Esperanza. In the process, a CLASSIC Disney artifact will be going away with Dinoland.

If you’ve been over to Dinoland, U.S.A., you’ve probably spent a little time with Dr. Grant Seeker at the Dinoland Institute and taken a ride on Dinosaur. Well, Dinosaur will be going away with Dinoland, along with everything in it. Yep, Dr. Grant Seeker is going to have to file for unemployment (although he’s got a bad reputation for sending folks into serious danger just to “go get that dino.”).

Dr. Seeker is being replaced with Indiana Jones, and Dinosaur will be re-themed as a brand new Indiana Jones ride. Although the ride will be similar to the one in Disneyland, the new ride in Animal Kingdom will feature a brand new story inside a Mayan temple. Indiana Jones is going to check out the temple, and he’s inviting us along for the adventure.

When Dinosaur gets re-themed, it’s going to lose one of Disney World’s most classic Easter Eggs. If you’ve been on Dinosaur, you may have noticed the pipes inside the massive queue area just before you get on the ride vehicles that are red, yellow, and white. Those pipes represent ketchup (red), mustard (yellow), and mayonnaise (white). They’re a throwback to Dinosaur’s opening and early days when it was sponsored by McDonald’s. If you look closely at the pipes, you’ll see the chemical formulas for ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise.

McDonald’s stopped sponsoring the ride in 2008, but the pipes remained as a nod to Dinosaur’s early days. However, with the ride getting a re-theme, we imagine these pipes to go away with the rest of the ride. You’re not likely to see those kinds of pipes inside a Mayan Temple, so it wouldn’t make sense for Disney to keep them.

So goodbye, Dinosaur, and goodbye ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise pipes. We’ll never forget you.
