Sometimes we just want to get away… even at Disney World.

It’s no secret that the Magic Kingdom is full of crowds. Whether in queues, at restaurants, watching shows or fireworks, or sometimes even just trying to walk down Main Street, there are people everywhere, which in turn can make the whole resort a bit of a nightmare for introverts. However, believe it or not, there are some areas of the park that are PERFECT for them… and I’d know, as I am one!
Columbia Harbour House
One of my favorite spots for introverts at the Magic Kingdom is the located in Liberty Square. The Columbia Harbour House is one of our favorite quick restaurants in the park to begin with (Clam Chowder: ‘Nuff Said) but the upstairs dining room brings it to another level.

Despite the restaurant being heavily trafficked, the upstairs seating area is rarely packed. Grabbing a table by oneself, in particular looking out over the Haunted Mansion area, is a perfect place to relax and people watch for a bit.
Tomorrowland Classics
There are not one, but two classic Tomorrowland attractions that are perfect for introverts, both of which owe their existence to the 1964 World’s Fair. The first and more direct is the Carousel of Progress, which had originally debuted at the fair. Not only is this audio-animatronic-filled show essentially a time portal into Walt Disney and his imagineers worldview circa the mid-1960s (well 3/4ths of it anyway), it’s also a generally empty, dark, and quiet theater. In other words, a perfect space to get away form the crushing crowds, heat, and even light of the outside world.

Just across from the Carousel of Progress, there’s the PeopleMover. Based on a ride system that was developed for the Ford Magic Skyway at the 1964 World’s Fair, the PeopleMover — which has also gone by the name Tomorrowland Transit Authority — has been traversing a route above the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland since 1975. Anyone who’s ever ridden it knows how relaxing the slow-moving trip can be thanks to a cool breeze, beautiful views, and literally giving the ability to soar over the crowds below in solitude.

On the Banks of the Rivers of America
There are several outcroppings along the shores of the Rivers of America in Frontierland. Since these spots are off of the park’s main path, they’re usually not crowded, and provide great views of the Haunted Mansion in one direction, Tom Sawyer Island in the center, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in the other direction.

The spot is particularly gorgeous at sunset, and provides ample opportunity for people-watching while remaining separated from the crowd.

While the Magic Kingdom is literally the busiest theme park in the world, but there are perfect spots for introverts if one knows where to look. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Magic Kingdom tips.
