We have so much to get excited about in Disney World this year!

There’s Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana coming in late 2023, a new restaurant is coming to Disney Springs, and Happily Ever After fireworks are returning to Magic Kingdom! But, if you’re anything like us, you haven’t been able to stop thinking about the new ride coming to Magic Kingdom — TRON Lightcycle / Run! Luckily, we’ve collected all the details so you’ll be prepared come opening day.
First, if you haven’t heard, TRON Lightcycle / Run finally has an opening date! After Disney teased a possible opening date earlier this week, we finally got our confirmed answer — the TRON coaster will officially open on April 4th, 2023!

Now, let’s go over everything you need to know for that opening day!
The Ride Itself
First, this coaster’s story picks up after TRON: Legacy, when Kevin’s son, Sam Flynn, opens a “second gateway into a digital realm called the Grid” — the first gateway being the one in Shanghai Disneyland.

In this coaster, guests will board a two-wheeled Lightcycle on a train that represents Team Blue. The goal is to race against the Grid’s Programs, Team Orange to get through the eight Energy Gates first.
Tickets and Reservations
Now that you’re excited about this thriller, let’s talk about how to get to it! You’re going to need a valid park ticket to Magic Kingdom on April 4th if you want to go on opening day — whether that’s a regular theme park ticket or an Annual Pass.

Unfortunately, if you have a Pirate Pass or a Pixie Pass, April 4th falls on a blockout day, so if you have to ride this ride on opening day, you’ll need to get a regular ticket. However, there are going to be Annual Passholder previews for you — more on that later.

Don’t forget that Disney is still using the Park Pass Reservation system, so you’ll need to get one of those. As of right now, Magic Kingdom Park Passes are fully booked for Annual Passholders on April 4th. While Disney has shared that these park passes will be relaxed after 2 PM in the coming months for Annual Passholders, we don’t have an official day for that yet.

Park Passes are fully available for regular park tickets, but we advise you to make these ASAP because it is going to be a popular day. But remember that 1-day, 1-park tickets now automatically come with a Park Pass — you’ll just have to make sure you grab these tickets soon.
How To Ride
Disney announced that TRON Lightcycle / Run will NOT feature a standby line when it opens — instead, there will be a Virtual Queue. You’ll also be able to ride this attraction by buying an Individual Lightning Lane via Genie+.

Let’s go over the virtual queue basics:
- You’ll need to use the My Disney Experience app to try to join the virtual queue
- A standby queue will NOT be available
- You can enter the virtual queue only ONCE per day during regular park hours
- Boarding groups are limited, are not guaranteed, and are subject to availability
- NOT all boarding groups may be called to return depending on availability
- You will need a valid park ticket for Magic Kingdom
- You will also need a valid Park Pass reservation for Magic Kingdom

Thus far, Disney has NOT revealed the times at which those Boarding Groups will be distributed. If the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ride is any indication, distribution times could be 7AM and 1PM, but thus far Disney has not confirmed that it will be the same for TRON. We’ll be on the lookout for more details.

Previews
If you can’t get to Magic Kingdom on opening day, don’t worry — there are still a few ways that you might be able to get on this ride beforehand. Disney has confirmed that there will be previews of TRON Lightcycle / Run for Cast Members, Annual Passholders, AND Disney Vacation Club Members.

While we don’t know yet the dates for these previews, we’ll stay on the lookout for more information as it arises, so stay tuned!
TRON Lightcycle / Run is a highly anticipated ride and updates are happening fast! Make sure you’re following along with AllEars to stay up to date on the latest info!
