Rides You’ll Regret Paying for in Disney World

Disney Genie was recently introduced to My Disney Experience as a new planning tool guests can use for their vacations. Also introduced was Genie+, which replaced the FastPass+ system in Disney World.

Lightning Lane

For $15 per day, per person, you can access 46 rides to make reservations for their Lightning Lanes (old FastPass+ lane), which are used to skip the standby lines. But you can only have one reservation at a time (with the exception of the 120 minute rule). Some rides aren’t included with Genie+ but are instead Individual Attraction Selections that you can pay separately for to use their Lightning Lanes.

These options can come in really handy when trying to maximize your time in the Disney World parks, but there are some rides you might want to consider not spending this money on.

Here are the rides you might regret paying for in Disney World!

Magic Kingdom

Space Mountain

Space Mountain is one of the two Individual Attraction Selection rides in Magic Kingdom. While this ride is popular, you can usually rope drop it and experience lower than average waits.

It might not be the best to spend your money on this one individually, and rather just get in line early or keep an eye on wait times throughout the day.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

This is the other Individual Attraction Selection ride in Magic Kingdom. Seven Dwarfs usually has the longest wait time in the park, so paying individually to skip the line could be beneficial. However, this ride is very short, so it may not work out to being a good value.

You can also rope drop Seven Dwarfs in the morning to typically experience lower wait times.

The Barnstormer Starring the Great Goofini

Using a Genie+ reservation on Barnstormer?! Not unless you’re just trying to squeeze in as many attractions as possible using Genie+ (but we’ve already done this for ya). Barnstormer is not known for having long wait times, so save your Genie+ reservations for other attractions.

Magic Carpets of Aladdin

The same goes for Magic Carpets of Aladdin. Long wait times are unusual for this ride, so don’t use your Genie+ reservation on it.

Also this is just a different version of the classic Dumbo ride — get a reservation for Dumbo instead!

EPCOT

Frozen Ever After

Frozen Ever After is available for Individual Attraction Selection, but it might not be necessary to pay to skip the line for this one. While it is a very popular ride that can see high wait times, you can usually time it right to avoid the highest wait times of the day.

Frozen Ever After

Rope dropping Frozen Ever After is a good way to bypass those really long waits that you can see later in the day (and avoid paying to ride it).

Spaceship Earth

It’s true that there are certain times when Spaceship Earth can see high wait times, but it’s common to see decently low waits at this ride.

Remember, it continuously moves, so that gets guests onto it faster than other rides that stop and load.

Less Popular Attractions

And now for attractions in EPCOT that do not usually have high wait times and are not necessarily worth making a Genie+ reservation for. Journey Into Imagination with Figment, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Living with the Land, and Pixar Short Film Fest all fall into this category.

Journey into Imagination

It’s very likely that these rides will have short wait times at some point in the day while you’re at EPCOT, if not for the majority of the day.

Hollywood Studios

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

This is one of the rides in Hollywood Studios you can pay individually to skip the line. Runaway Railway is definitely a popular attraction, and it’s one that the whole family can go on, so that’s a big draw, too.

But if you rope drop, you should be able to experience a lower wait than if you were to try and ride it later in the day. You can plan your way around needing to pay for this ride.

Stage Shows & Entertainment

There is not really a need to make a Genie+ reservation for the stage shows in Hollywood Studios like the Frozen Sing-Along Celebration and Beauty and the Beast — Live on Stage. It’s not like there are huge crowds trying to squeeze into the theaters for these, and there’s plenty of space for the crowds that do line up.

Beauty and the Beast

Entertainment like the Disney Junior Dance Party also falls under this category.

Who wants to dance?

Right now, the attraction is unavailable — but when it was available, guests generally were able to experience this easily.

Alien Swirling Saucers

This ride is only around 90 seconds long, and it honestly feels shorter than that. We would not recommend using Genie+ for this ride unless you just HAVE to go on it and the wait time is long.

But you can also rope drop this ride or find times during the day when the wait shouldn’t be very long. Either way, this super short ride isn’t worth a long wait OR a Genie+ reservation.

Animal Kingdom

Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest is one of the rides that falls under Individual Attraction Selections or pay-per-ride. Recently, it’s been $7 per person to use the Lightning Lane for this ride. We’re here to tell you that you do NOT need to pay to ride Everest.

Everest!

The wait time doesn’t really get too high for Everest unless it’s a really busy time of year. Even then, the line usually moves pretty fast. You can also easily rope drop this ride or save it until the end of the night. In the morning, the wait time stays low for a decent amount of time while the majority of rope droppers head to Pandora.

Single Rider Line

Everest has a single rider line, so if you don’t mind being split up from your party, it’s a great option and usually significantly shorter than the standby wait time.

It’s Tough to Be A Bug & Feathered Friends in Flight!

Like we’ve said before, you don’t really need to use Genie+ on shows. The wait times aren’t usually high or they only happen at certain times each day.

It’s Tough to Be a Bug

You can just get in line for the show you want to see a little before the time it’s supposed to start if you want to guarantee a spot. Don’t waste a Genie+ reservation on these! You will not need it unless it’s an exceptionally busy day like Christmas or 4th of July.
