PHOTOS & VIDEO: Why You’ll Want to Visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom at NIGHT

Disney World’s BIG 50th Anniversary celebration is officially underway!

The 50th Anniversary has brought all kinds of new things to Disney World, including new fireworks shows, new snacks, and new merchandise. As part of the 50th Anniversary, all of the Disney park icons are also receiving a special new nighttime look as they transform into “Beacons of Magic.” Today, we’re making our way over to Animal Kingdom to see just what its new nighttime look is like!

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Tree of Life, the park’s signature icon, is being transformed into a Beacon of Magic with some extra special nighttime lights and effects.

According to Disney, during this transformation “a warm and glorious light emanates from the Tree of Life, as enchanted fireflies gather to call forth the magic of nature.”

We were in the park just as the sun was setting to make sure we could catch the effect in all its glory. As the Tree of Life becomes a Beacon of Magic, you’ll hear some narration overhead talking about the magic of nature. At some points you may also hear just a bit of the 50th Anniversary musical anthem. It seems like some of this narration is repeated a few times throughout the night, as the effect continues.

After that brief introduction to this magical effect, you’ll get to just sit and bask in the glow of the awesomeness that is the Tree of Life! In the leaves and branches you’ll see effects that make it look as though there are fireflies flying around.

On the tree itself, you’ll see beautiful colors projected. There are also some rays of light that are sort-of projected through the tree, almost as if the sun was shining through the leaves.

The effects remind us in a way of the Tree of Life Awakenings that were previously held in this park. The Beacon of Magic effect is more stationary though, in the sense that there isn’t as much of a projection show as there have been with previous Tree of Life effects.

Still, the effect of these new projections is stunning! We seriously couldn’t stop taking photos. The Tree of Life truly shines with those bright colors and details projected onto it.

This new nighttime effect is a big reason why you might want to stop by Animal Kingdom at night. It’s worth a watch because the effect is gorgeous!
