Disney Cruise Line in Talks to Set Up Second Florida Port

Disney may be looking for additional space to house their growing fleet, and Orlando Sentinel has reported that the company is in talks to set up a potential second year-round home in Florida.

Port Everglades, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is now in talks with Disney to be that second year-round home, thanks to a unanimous vote by the Broward County Commission.

Currently, Port Canaveral is the only year-round home in the state of Florida for Disney Cruse Line, in large part thanks to its close proximity to Disney World in Orlando. Two of Disney Cruise Line’s ships are based out of Port Canaveral, with the other two migrating seasonally to ports around the world.

If the deal goes through, Disney would have to base one of its four existing ships out of Port Everglades, as the port currently does not have the capabilities to handle a ship run on liquefied natural gas. This would also be the first time Port Everglades has hosted a Disney Cruise Line ship, with the exception of emergency docking during storms.
