Rainy days can seem like a drag at Disney World, but we actually LOVE rainy days in the parks! During a rainstorm, many people leave the park to head for cover at their hotel room, which can really clear the crowds out. If we stay at the park while it’s raining, we often see shorter lines at the rides and fewer crowds roaming the walkways.

Rainy days are very common at Disney World, so if you want to brave out the rain, we have the ultimate ride hack specifically for these days that you’ll want to take advantage of!
Pay Attention to Your Lightning Lanes
If you booked a Lightning Lane for a ride that typically closes during bad weather (ie, outdoor attractions), you’ll want to pay attention to your My Disney Experience app! Sometimes, when a ride that you have a Lightning Lane for closes due to bad weather during your return window, you may receive a Multiple Experiences Lightning Lane to compensate you.

This is never guaranteed, but it’s certainly worth paying attention to your Lightning Lanes during a storm in case one changes to a Multiple Experience pass. These passes let you get on any Multi Pass ride at any time. If you have a Single Pass ride that goes down, then you’ll only be able to use the new pass at that ride. You will be able to use it at any other time throughout the day once the attraction reopens. We suggest using the Multi Pass Multiple Experience pass on a hard-to-get ride, such as one of the top-tier attractions like Slinky Dog Dash or Frozen Ever After.

It’s also important to know that when a ride is down for weather, you may not be able to book a Lightning Lane for it in real time. And if you do book it while it’s down, it’s unlikely you’ll receive the Multiple Experiences pass.

Rides that commonly go down for weather are Slinky Dog Dash, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (when it reopens from its refurbishment), and Expedition Everest.

See the Shows
Another great hack during a rainstorm is to see the shows! Avoid the outdoor rides, lines, and walkways by sitting in a dry theater, enjoying some of Disney World’s great shows.

All four parks have indoor theaters featuring 4-D shows and live Broadway-style performances. At Animal Kingdom, you can enjoy the new Zootopia: Better Zoogether show, the Finding Nemo: Big Blue…and Beyond! show, and the Festival of the Lion King show.

At EPCOT, you’ll find a movie at the Canada pavilion, a Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along show at the France pavilion, The American Adventure show at the U.S. pavilion, and more. Of course, EPCOT is also home to many indoor rides that you can enjoy while it’s raining!

Over in Hollywood Studios, you can see For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, Vacation Fun, Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, and The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure, and soon a brand-new show in the Walt Disney Studios area, all indoors.

And at Magic Kingdom, you’ll find Mickey’s Philharmagic, Hall of Presidents, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, the Enchanted Tiki Room, and Country Bear Musical Jamboree at indoor locations.

Take Advantage of Things You Might Not Normally Do
If you would like to try something new that you might not normally do, a rainy day is the perfect day to do so. Head over to Disney Springs to go bowling and eat some tasty snacks at Splitsville.

Or catch a movie in one of the dine-in theaters at AMC. Disney has several hit movies coming out, including the newest Avatar film. Seeing a new Disney movie at Disney World is a fun way to experience new beloved films from the company.

Rainy days are a vibe at Disney World, and they’re VERY common in central Florida. Be ready to take advantage of a rainstorm at the parks or head to Disney Springs to enjoy some rainy-day activities there.
