The Star Wars universe has been loved by many fans ever since the first movie was released in 1977. Since then, numerous movies and TV shows have been produced, the franchise has made its way into the Disney parks, and Grogu has stolen everyone’s hearts.
And as the years go on, things are getting even more technologically advanced and being introduced to Disney’s theme parks and beyond. Guests can FLY the Millennium Falcon, and in 2023, interactive droids debuted at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland. What’s next? Hovering droid food carts. Yes, you read that right. Let’s talk about them!
According to the Orange County Register, Disney will be debuting Star Wars-themed food carts from The Mandalorian and Grogu at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California. Walt Disney Imagineering collaborated with The Mandalorian and Grogu filmmaker Jon Favreau and his production team on the development of this project.
These food carts will actually be hovering droids using magnetic levitation. For now, they will only be delivering drinks to attending guests. While it’s being showcased at D23 in August, these droids will possibly be introduced to Disneyland in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge later this year.
There has yet to be an announcement regarding the addition of Hugo’s food stand at Disneyland; however, Imagineering has provided some insight into what guests could experience with these hovering droids in the park. Guests visiting Disneyland will be able to order drinks via the My Disney Experience app and pick them up from a hovering droid at Hugo’s food stand, which is replicated from the one in the film. According to Bloomberg, the droid may act a certain way depending on what drink or the number of drinks ordered. For example, if a guest only purchases one drink, the droid may act sad and lonely.
Serving beverages is just the beginning of what Imagineering has planned for these droids. According to Imagineering Senior Vice President for Research and Development Kyle Laughlin, they could eventually be used to sell other things like toys and merchandise.
Laughlin spoke with Bloomberg, exclaiming that they expect more free-roaming robots and other advanced technology to be developed over the next decade to be introduced to all of their theme parks around the world, including the newest, Disneyland Abu Dhabi.

I’m really starting to hate how lucky Disney is with Star Wars right now. We here in Florida have never gotten those cute robots. Now this update. So lucky.
