I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! I’m an ice cream fanatic, and I’ve tried just about all the ice cream across Disney World. One of my favorite places to get ice cream is at Magic Kingdom, especially if I can watch the castle while doing it.

We’re going to the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street, U.S.A., to see if you should stop here during your next trip to Magic Kingdom. We’re bringing you a full review, so sit back, relax, and get ready to want some ice cream.
Background
The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor is located right on the corner of Main Street next to the Plaza Restaurant. It’s a counter service location where you’ll order at the register and then take your receipt to the back counter, where they’ll make your ice cream right in front of you.

There is no indoor seating, but as soon as you exit, head towards the castle, and there is covered seating in front of the Plaza Restaurant. You can also head to the left towards Casey’s Corner for even more seating.

Atmosphere
As soon as you walk in, you’ll be transported into the early 20th century. From the checkered flooring to the teal and gold accents, this is a classic ice cream parlor where their hand-scooped ice cream will convince you to come back time and time again.

They offer treats from sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes, and ice cream floats, including root beer floats for that classic snack. In addition to traditional scoops of ice cream, there are typically seasonal treats, too.

The available ice cream flavors are vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, mint chocolate chip, and cookies ‘n cream. There’s also some plant-based frozen desserts available, and no sugar-added raspberry sorbet.

Food & Drinks
First, we got the All-American Sundae for $8.29, which is made with Old-fashioned Vanilla and Chocolate Ice Cream with Hot Fudge, Peanut Butter Drizzle, Whipped Cream, and a cherry.

Now THAT is one classic sundae. If you want an option that the whole family is going to love, this is the one to choose. The vanilla and chocolate ice cream are the flavors you know and love with a perfect creamy and smooth texture. There are so many toppings that take it to the next level, like fluffy whipped cream they add right in front of you, and hot fudge that had a great consistency that wasn’t too runny or thick.

The only thing different about this sundae is that it’s served in a cup! While it’s a little bit more difficult to get all the flavors in one bite since you have to dig pretty deep to get to the vanilla ice cream, we thought the convenience of the cup was worth it. It was easy to pass around and walk around with it on a hot summer day without having to worry about it melting onto your hands.

We also had the Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich, which is two chocolate chip cookies and your choice of ice cream for $7.49. We chose Cookies ‘n Cream and added a cup of Caramel Sauce for $0.69.

Ice cream cookie sandwich powers unite! The Oreo flavored ice cream was the best part, with it being creamy with the right size of Oreo chunks inside. We also appreciated how the ice cream wasn’t vanilla with Oreo, but instead tasted like it was the middle cream of the cookie. The caramel sauce took it to the next level with its beautiful texture that oozed in just the right way, complemented by a buttery, salty flavor.

While the cookies were delicious with the chunks of chocolate in them, they were a bit harder than we would have preferred, so when you try to bite into them, the ice cream squishes out the sides, making this one of the messiest ice cream sandwiches we’ve had. We highly recommend eating this with a spoon (especially if you added the caramel), but you might want to break up the cookie with your hands or use the cookie as your spoon. Despite all of that, the flavors were there, and the cookie textures might vary day to day depending on the baker.

We ended our visit with S’mores Shake, which is Hand-dipped Chocolate Ice Cream topped with Marshmallows, Graham Crackers, and Chocolate Sauce for $8.99.

When our reporter knew they were heading to the Ice Cream Parlor, they said this is the one item they won’t leave without. We’ve tried different s’mores shakes across the parks, but this is the most classic you can find. The chocolate shake is more than just melted chocolate ice cream, but you can taste the milk in it and appreciate how smooth it is. Like the sundae, there are SO many toppings.

The toppings turn it into a s’mores shake, instead of a plain chocolate shake, and there’s plenty to go around. We loved the marshmallows and how they were on top of the whipped cream, so they didn’t get too hard and cold. The chocolate syrup adds a stronger chocolate flavor without overpowering it, and the graham cracker crumbles on top bring a touch of saltiness to the mix. This is a top milkshake for us!

Magic or Tragic?
You should head to the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor if…
-
- You love classic flavors and lots of ice cream
- You don’t mind taking your ice cream to go and finding a spot somewhere else
- You prefer limited, family-friendly options to try
You might want to skip this spot if…
-
- You prefer to eat inside with your ice cream
- You want a wider variety of options that can appeal to more people in the family
- You want over-the-top snacks that are more unique than you can get back home

Overall, the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor is a great place to stop at if you’re looking for tried and true classic and traditional flavors. With the limited options, they are able to make your dishes right in front of you with simple and fresh ingredients. We love the location right on Main Street, but when it gets too busy, like how it does closer to fireworks, don’t forget to check out other ice cream spots instead of waiting in the long line. If you love trying different s’mores options, you’ll want to mark the S’mores Shake off your list.
While we’re still dreaming of all the amazing ice cream we’ve had, make sure you’re following AllEars for more food reviews so you can have the best Disney trip yet.
