TSA Bans a Popular Beauty Item

Heads up if you’ll be traveling through U.S. airports soon, as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has banned another popular item, according to NBC News.

The TSA has added three new items to its list of items you’re unable to travel with, and it could impact your beauty routine.

Disney Vacation Planner

The TSA has banned several new items lately, and the most recent one can likely be found in your toiletry case. According to NBC News, the Federal Aviation Administration has updated its policy stating that travelers can no longer fly with the following in checked luggage:

  • Curling irons or flat irons that contain gas cartridges
  • Curling irons or flat irons fueled by butane
  • Spare gas cartridges for curling irons or flat irons

Luckily, travelers are still able to bring these items in carry-on luggage as long as they have a safety cover that prevents them from accidentally being turned on or activated in their bag.

Most electronic curling irons and flat irons are still perfectly safe to bring and pack in your checked or carry-on luggage.

Orlando International Airport security

There have been quite a few changes regarding what travelers can bring through TSA lately. Back in May 2025, the TSA issued a ban on packing portable chargers in checked luggage. Specifically, portable charges with lithium-ion batteries. While they are efficient and powerful chargers, they are a fire hazard.

Orlando International Airport

In July 2025, the “shoe rule” that was in place, requiring passengers to remove their shoes when going through TSA, was lifted. As of July 12th, passengers at most domestic airports no longer need to remove their shoes when going through security.

Several of our team members have traveled through airports following this change, and many of them commented that the wait times to get through security had drastically decreased.

Allegiant Air

Even at the Orlando International Airport (MCO), which has had notoriously long security lines in the past, waits have hardly increased above 15 minutes every time we’ve checked on the MCO app. The same is true for our own personal experience at this busy airport.
