NEWS: Disney Files Permit To Demolish Part of Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios

As each day passes, we get closer and closer to the dreaded day when part of Grand Avenue, a.k.a. Muppets Courtyard, will go away for good.

This upcoming demolition project will make way for the new Monsters, INC. Land coming to the park, which we’re seriously looking forward to at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Still, we’re sad this beloved courtyard has to go away to make it happen. The good news is that the Muppets will make their way over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to take over the attraction. Disney just filed a new permit that confirms that demolition is coming soon to Hollywood Studios.

Disney just filed a new permit on May 7th for “Demo, infrastructure prep and utility modification” on the building located at 361 Cypress Drive, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830. Well, that address is none other than the Stage 1 Company Store.

There’s no confirmation when this will begin, but the project has been approved, meaning that it’s allowed to occur between May 7th, 2025 and May 7th, 2026. It’s likely that this will be one of the first areas of the land demoed when it officially closes on June 8th. Currently, June 7th is the last day of operation for PizzeRizzo and Muppet*Vision 3D, meaning the land will officially be closed beginning June 8th.

The Stage 1 Company Store has been closed since early 2020. While it’s been open for special events in the past, it hasn’t welcomed guests to shop in over five years. This used to be the place to grab all your Muppets apparel and souvenirs, but since its closure, there’s been no merchandise in this area of the park.
