Planning a trip to Disney World in early 2026? You might want to pump the brakes on booking a Skyliner hotel.

Disney announced that the Skyliner will be closed for refurbishment from January 25th through January 31st, 2026. That means no gliding over the parks with your morning coffee or zipping from your resort to Hollywood Studios without breaking a sweat. If you’ve got your heart set on staying at one of the Skyliner resorts for the Skyliner, this is your sign to reconsider if you’re visiting the parks on those dates.
Here’s what you need to know before you hit “confirm” on that reservation.
The Skyliner Shutdown Is Back
If you’ve stayed at a Skyliner resort before, you probably know the drill — Disney typically shuts down the Skyliner for a quick annual refurb in late January. But in 2025, that didn’t happen. Now in 2026, Disney’s putting that maintenance break back on the calendar.

From January 25th to the 31st, the entire Skyliner system will be down. That includes all stops and connections between EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and the resorts that rely on the Skyliner. So, if you’re staying at Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, or Riviera Resort during that week, you won’t be flying anywhere — you’ll be busing.
Why That Matters (More Than You Think)
Sure, complimentary buses will be available, and technically, every Disney resort has bus service. But the truth is that the buses during Skyliner closures get crowded, and wait times can balloon, especially when you’re trying to rope drop a popular ride or make a dining reservation across the resort.

Also, if the Skyliner is part of what made your resort choice appealing — think quick access to EPCOT for Festival of the Arts or an easy Hollywood Studios hop for Rise of the Resistance — this weeklong closure could be a major buzzkill.
Our Advice: Rethink Those Dates
If your 2026 trip falls during this January window and you were banking on that breezy Skyliner access, we’d suggest rebooking elsewhere or adjusting your dates. Some solid alternatives include:
- BoardWalk Inn, Yacht Club, or Beach Club: Walkable to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.
- Contemporary, Polynesian, or Grand Floridian: Monorail access to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, with plenty of food and entertainment options nearby.
- Port Orleans or Saratoga Springs: More peaceful vibes with boat access (to Disney Springs, not the parks — but still a nice perk!).

Or, if you’re sticking with a Skyliner resort for the theming or value pricing, just be aware you’ll need to build in extra travel time. Like, actually build it in — buses will run more frequently, but the crowds will still slow you down.
You Still Have Options (But Set Expectations)
If you’re determined to stay at a Skyliner resort during the closure week, here’s what you can do to make things a little easier:
- Leave early for park days. Like, painfully early. Everyone else is taking the same bus you are.
- Use boats where you can. There’s boat transportation between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios with stops at BoardWalk, Swan & Dolphin, and Beach/Yacht Club.
- Consider ride shares if you’re really tight on time or have early breakfast reservations.

Don’t plan park hopping based on Skyliner convenience. You’ll be busing both directions, and mid-day transit could eat up more of your afternoon than expected.
Final Thoughts
We love the Skyliner. It’s fast, scenic, and a surprisingly relaxing way to get around Disney World. But when it’s down — even just for a week — it throws a wrench into plans, especially if you picked your resort based on that convenience.

If your 2026 vacation falls during this closure window and you’re eyeing a Skyliner resort, it might be time to shift those dates or pivot to another resort that won’t leave you waiting in line for a bus at 7AM.
