From seeing giraffes out of your window at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to being just steps from Magic Kingdom at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney World hotels are a different breed!

But what do Disney’s Riviera, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, and Art of Animation Resorts all have in common? These are along the Disney Skyliner! And while that’s one of the biggest reasons we recommend staying at these resorts, it’s also the exact reason you should AVOID them in January.
Why avoid four of the most popular hotels in Disney World? Well, it has to do with the Skyliner refurbishment that happens each year in January.
We’ve seen it year after year — the Skyliner was closed from January 23rd through January 28th in 2022 and from January 22nd through the 29th in 2023. Disney has not confirmed a closure for the Skyliner in January 2024 just yet, but they often follow the same patterns for many yearly refurbishments.

Based on these past closures, we can expect a refurbishment around late January 2024. We’ll be sure to let you know if/when this is actually confirmed, though!
If you are staying at one of these resorts, don’t worry! You can still take other transportation such as the Disney busses or a rideshare.

Where should you stay instead? Well, if you are in need of an affordable option, check out the All Star Resorts. Although we’d usually pick Pop Century or Art of Animation over these hotels, they are not bad if you still want to stay at a Disney World hotel for a reasonable price.
If you don’t mind shelling out some more cash for a hotel room, we love the EPCOT area resorts since they are so close to two Disney World parks (EPCOT and Hollywood Studios). These are Disney’s Beach Club, Yacht Club, BoardWalk, Swan & Dolphin, and Swan Reserve.

There are also some hotel discounts going on right now that can save you money on a January 2024 trip. Check out the details on that deal here.
