There’s a lot going on in Disney World!

From the exciting reopening of things like the Harmony Barber Shop and Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, to the new construction happening at Polynesian Village Resort, to the continuing construction in EPCOT, it seems like there’s always something new to see! On a recent ride on the Monorail, we spotted some progress on the construction over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort — here’s what we saw!
While riding the Monorail to and from the Magic Kingdom, you get a pretty decent view of the construction (or really, demolition) happening at the Polynesian.

A few months ago, Disney announced that a new building will be added to the Polynesian that will be full of DVC rooms. Not only will there be more rooms, it will also offer new recreation options as well as new dining locations, as well. It is expected to be completed in 2024. One of the first steps in the construction is to tear down the building that currently stands there.

Unfortunately, the new addition means that the beloved Spirit of Aloha show will not be returning to the Polynesian. Spirit of Aloha was a dinner show that included all-you-care-to-enjoy food and a luau! Disney says that the new addition will “honor the Spirit of Aloha” but no details have been shared on whether a new show will be taking its place.

The new building will be nestled right on the edge of the Seven Seas Lagoon and should offer incredible views! Details about a specific opening timeline and what exactly will be coming to the building have not yet been shared by Disney.

In the meantime, the rest of the hotel is still open and available for bookings, and the pre-existing dining options like ‘Ohaha, Kona Cafe (though it will be closed briefly in August), and Capt. Cook’s are still available, as well.

The entire hotel was recently refurbished to include touches of Moana in the rooms, along with the Incredibles-themed rooms at the Contemporary, and the Mary Poppins rooms at the Grand Floridian, which is still ongoing.
