Star Wars Hotel Opening Date, an Interactive MagicBand, and More Disney News This Week!

Well, hello there! It’s been an exciting week for Disney, particularly for Disney World, who just started its 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Happy 50th, Disney World!

And we’ve been busy checking out all the new stuff with the 50th (including all the food), as well as keeping up with everything else going on with the Disney company (and there’s been a LOT this week).

So in case you  missed any Disney news this week, these are the top stories you need to know about.

Star Wars Hotel Opening Date

Although Disney previously told us that the Galactic Starcruiser, aka the Star Wars Hotel, would open in spring 2022, we recently got a solid opening date of March 1st, 2022. And Disney will start taking reservations for the hotel as of October 28th.

We also got some more details about the Starcruiser (aka the hotel), including a sneak peek at the bridge.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Opening Timeline

Disney also recently finally revealed an opening timeline for EPCOT’s next attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The official timeline for opening is sometime in 2022. And we even got to go inside the ride to learn more about it, including learning that this will be the largest indoor roller coaster in the world.

What do you think?

Disney promised the ride would be family-friendly and would take guests through a story about how Xandarians have built the first intergalactic pavilion at EPCOT so that guests can visit Xandar. Of course, the Guardians show up and shenanigans ensue.

MagicBand+

MagicBands are about to get a high-tech upgrade. The new MagicBand+ will give guests the same functionality as previous MagicBands, but will also include some new features like offering color-changing lights, vibrations, and gesture recognition.

MagicBand+ will debut in 2022 at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The next-generation wearable retains popular features from the original MagicBand and adds new functionality to unlock magical moments throughout Walt Disney World theme parks and resorts. (Disney)

Here are some ways the new MagicBand+ will enhance guests’ park experiences:

  • Play like a bounty hunter in a galaxy far, far away and find virtual bounties throughout Black Spire Outpost in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
  • Interact with the “Disney Fab 50 Character Collection,” the golden sculptures spread throughout the Walt Disney World theme parks.
  • Experience nighttime spectaculars in a new way as you see your band light up and complement the magic in the skies, including the new “Harmonious” at EPCOT and “Disney Enchantment” at Magic Kingdom Park.

The new MagicBand+ will become available for purchase sometime next year. But don’t worry — you’ll still be able to purchase regular MagicBands (or use old ones), as well as use the complimentary Disney MagicMobile service that works on your phone.
