Disney World is constantly innovating and introducing new technology!

We’ve seen the My Disney Experience app evolve over the years and the addition of things like MagicBands and MagicMobile, plus the upcoming Disney Genie. Now, there’s a new accessory in town, a leveled-up MagicBand if you will, and it has some really interesting features!
The new band is called MagicBand+ and it will feature some exciting new technology, allowing guests to interact in Walt Disney World like never before. According to Disney, “After you enter a theme park, MagicBand+ will come alive at various times with color-changing lights, haptic vibrations, and gesture recognition.”

When you get inside the park and start exploring, make sure to head to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, where you can play like a bounty hunter, using your MagicBand+ to find virtual bounties all over Black Spire Outpost. You can also use the band to interact with the golden Disney Fab 50 character statues stationed around the four parks for the 50th Anniversary.

And when it comes time for fireworks, your MagicBand+ will “light up and complement the magic in the skies” during Harmonious and Disney Enchantment. We can’t wait to see those effects in action!

MagicBand+ will go on sale beginning in 2022, which will include a discounted pre-arrival price for Disney Resort guests and new and renewing Annual Passholders. And don’t worry about the old MagicBands, they’ll still be available to purchase! The free MagicMobile system that was introduced earlier this year will still be in use as well.

Disney hasn’t revealed an official launch date yet, but a few MagicBand+ designs were accidentally released in World of Disney at Disney Springs on May 1st. After the bands were mistakenly put out on the shelf, they were quickly removed, but we got the chance to purchase one before they were completely gone. None of the features work yet, but we got a few more details about the band itself.

It’s bigger than a traditional MagicBand, and boxier in shape. They’re rechargeable, and they’re compatible with Amazon Alexa — we’re interested to see if they work in Disney hotels with the new Hey Disney! feature coming soon. Once they’re officially launched, we’ll be able to check them out for ourselves!

That’s everything we know about MagicBand+ right now, but we’ll keep you updated as we continue to learn more in the coming months! Stay tuned to AllEars for the latest news and updates.

So based on all the “features” I imagine the battery life will be very short. Current magic bands are useless after batteries die. Are these rechargeable?
