Did you know that Kilimanjaro Safaris isn’t the only place that you can see animals up close at Disney’s Animal Kingdom?

It’s true! While it can be easy to get caught up exploring Pandora — The World of Avatar and riding thrill rides like Expedition Everest or Dinosaur, animals are actually a BIG part of the park that most people miss when they’re visiting. Yes, you could enjoy more than one bumpy ride through the savannah or take a trip to Rafiki’s Planet Watch for the petting area, but you’d be missing out on a lot of other animals!
Stop skipping THIS part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is home to three different walking trails and each is full of different animals that you can only encounter when you’re traveling on foot! Let’s take a look at where you can find each trail and what kind of animals you might spot!
Discovery Island Trail
First up is the Discovery Island Trail. This path is one that you likely pass by every time you enter the park without even knowing it! It is located near the Tree of Life so you’ll get an up-close look at all the animals carved into the tree trunk and get to meet some animals who are chilling out in the Florida sun!

You’ll find kangaroos, birds, lemurs, and more as you weave through the roots of the Tree of Life.

And, because this trail is more hidden than others, it tends to be much less crowded so you’ll get your own private viewing on this relaxing path.

Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail
If you’ve ever ridden Kilimanjaro Safaris, you’re probably familiar with this next walking path — Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail. Your safari host will normally point you in this direction after the ride because it is located right at the exit of the ride.

During the self-guided tour, you’ll stumble upon tons of different animals including gorillas, meerkats, and okapi. Plus, there’s a bird exhibit AND an underwater viewing area where you can see hippos floating (or walking) their way through the water.

This walking trail is pretty long, so be sure that you’ve got enough time to stop and stare at the animals as they entertain you on the trail!

Maharajah Jungle Trek
And, the last walking trail at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the Maharajah Jungle Trek. This one is located in Asia just past the entrance to Kali River Rapids.

Here you’ll find animals that are native to Asia including tigers, bats, birds, and more.

Plus, the animals aren’t the only attraction here — the trail is decorated with art and architecture that you might find in Nepal, India, Thailand, and Indonesia.
