If that song is now stuck in your head, then you’ll need to read all about the changes coming to the Carousel of Progress in Magic Kingdom. In 2025, Disney World announced updates were coming to this classic attraction, and we finally got new information on the changes. A great big beautiful tomorrow is going to be packed with new changes.
The opening scene will now include a Walt Disney animatronic, similar to Disneyland’s animatronic from Walt Disney: A Magical Life. We were told there will be tons of easter eggs from Walt’s filming in the new scene.
As part of the update, they’ll be shifting the decades! We’re going to start where Walt left off, in the 1960’s, where John and the family have just come back from the World’s Fair. The son will be watching the iconic moon landing.
Then we’ll go 15 years forward with Sarah hosting in the kitchen with big hair and big style to represent the 1980’s. Disney said that they’re having “more fun than [they] can admit, scouring eBay” for pop culture and Disney nods to add to the scenes. The daughter is off to work, and Uncle Orville will be talking about a company he invested all his savings into with clap-off lights.
Moving forward again, to 1995, John will have plenty of single-use appliances and will be enjoying the internet. Grandma and Grandpa will be counting down to New Year’s on TV, too.
There will be lots of hidden details and practical effects, and it is set to close on July 5th to reopen in 2027. This is the fourth refurbishment of Carousel of Progress, and as Walt Disney said, “we keep plussing things.”
