REVIEW: Disney World’s Tiffins CHANGED Its Menu…And We Have Thoughts

Admit it…one of your favorite things about Disney’s Animal Kingdom (other than all the animals) is the food. There are so many good — and unique — options in the park, including some of our standby favorites like cheeseburger pods and cookie ice cream sandwiches.

Caramel Flan

However, there’s a fantastic option for fine dining in Animal Kingdom, too, and that’s at Tiffins. Well, Tiffins just introduced five new foods on its menu, so we recently stopped by to try out these new menu items.

Okay, so let’s just dive right into the new food. The Korean Barbecue Pork Belly Bao Buns are a new appetizer made with Pickled Cucumber, Green Papaya Slaw, Cilantro for $16. There are a lot of flavors here, but they all work to make for a delicious starter. However, we feel like the bao was a little plain, like it needed more flavor.

The pork belly was juicy, but it had spots of dryness. We also wished there were more of it. The slaw added some crunch, but almost too much. We thought it was easier to eat after we took some out.

Too much slaw

Of course, we couldn’t go to Tiffins without having the Tiffins Signature Bread Service for $20. The current bread service includes Pão de Queijo with Guava Sauce, Onion Kulcha Naan with Coriander Chutney, and Thai Curry Milk Bread with Coconut-Curry Sauce.  First up, this bread service could be a complete meal because it is a lot!

The Pão de Queijo with Guava Sauce was an immediate favorite. It’s Brazilian cheese bread, and it’s fresh and flavorful. The sweet guava sauce is a perfect complement for the bread.

The Onion Kulcha Naan with Coriander Chutney was not a favorite. Now, granted, the naan itself was really good, with an onion flavor that wasn’t too overpowering. The chutney, though, had a bit of a peppery kick, and we would normally love that, but it didn’t really pair well with the naan.

The last one is the Thai Curry Milk Bread with Coconut-Curry Sauce. First off, the sauce is probably the one with the most kick of the three. The bread is nicely seasoned and soft, almost pillowy. The sauce was runny, and the bread had this aftertaste to it that we didn’t really like.

We also tried some new desserts, including the African Pot de Crème for $13. This is a Chocolate Pot de Crème made with Ethiopian Coffee, Ras el Hanout Pineapple, Pistachio, and a Chocolate Cookie. The presentation is gorgeous, and the dessert itself is unique.

African Pot de Crème

Our favorite part was the cookie on top. However, the actual pot de crème just didn’t hit for us. It was very thick and hard to even get a spoon into. Even the additional ingredients didn’t give this a lot of flavor. The pineapples add a nice juiciness, but overall, they didn’t save this dessert. Also, overall, the dessert tasted salty, which we also didn’t really like.

We also ordered the new Caramel Flan with Cardamom-scented Caramel, Vanilla Chantilly for $14. You’ll have to appreciate the texture of flan to really love this dessert. This flan has a nice texture with oozy caramel on top. Combined with the vanilla chantilly, it had a lovely flavor.

Basically, if you love flan, you’ll probably love this. We were told this was one of the more popular desserts, and it’s easy to see why.

Creamy and smooth

The Seasonal Sorbet Trio for $11 is also new. This is a plant-based option, and you’ll get three sorbets of the season. Right now, you’ll get Strawberry Pink Peppercorn, Blueberry Yuzu with Shiso Sugar, and Apricot-Orange Pistachio Sorbet.

Seasonal Sorbet Trio

The Strawberry Pink Peppercorn had a fresh, rich strawberry flavor that we loved. The peppercorn is mild, so you don’t really get a lot of that flavor. This was our favorite of the three. The sorbet itself was creamy and smooth.

The Blueberry Yuzu with Shiso Sugar had a more floral flavor, and it’s served with a little flower on top. The blueberry flavor does come through, and overall, the combined flavors remind us of açai. The texture of this sorbet is more icy, with the grainy sugar on top adding another element of texture.

Our least favorite was the Apricot-Orange Pistachio SorbetTo start with, it’s very tart, and you don’t really get much of the apricot flavor. It tasted more like a general fruity flavor. We did appreciate that it had a smooth texture like the first sorbet. The pistachio wasn’t really heavy, although the nutty flavor did come through.

Note that the sorbet flavors will change, depending on the ingredients that are fresh during each season.

Overall, the main reason we come to Tiffins is often for the bread service, and that’s still a solid option. Pair it with the flan or sorbet, and you’ve got yourself a meal.

We’ll be back with even more Disney World restaurant and food reviews, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.
