Just days after Disney confirmed the attraction’s upcoming closure date, new paperwork has surfaced that suggests movement is already happening behind the scenes. While details are still limited, the timing alone makes this filing worth paying attention to. It also offers another clue that big changes for this iconic coaster are closer than they might seem.

The signs of an upcoming transformation are beginning to show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — and one of the park’s most iconic thrill rides is officially entering a new chapter. A permit has been filed for work on Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, a strong indicator that preparations are moving forward for the ride’s upcoming reimagining as a Muppets-themed attraction.

The permit filed on December 18th lists Mecca Productions Inc. as the contractor for work on Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster. The description notes this is to “Install set elements.” While the filing doesn’t explicitly detail cosmetic or storyline changes, this comes after the pre-show was permanently shuttered.

Permits like this typically signal the start of more visible work, especially as Disney prepares for the attraction’s closure and re-opening. Although Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is set to remain open through March 2nd, 2026, construction and behind-the-scenes preparations are clearly underway ahead of the ride’s transformation for summer 2026. The bright side to this is that it appears we won’t have to wait too long until we’re able to take our first ride with the Muppets on this coaster!

The pre-show of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was removed at the beginning of December

Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster has been thrilling visitors of Disney’s Hollywood Studios since 1999, blending high-speed launches with cranked-up rock music and indoor loops, and it remains one of the park’s most beloved coasters. The re-theming will spotlight The Muppets’ Electric Mayhem band and a new music-festival-style story, which aims to bring a fresh twist to the experience while preserving the heart-pounding thrills we’ve come to expect.

For now, the permit filing gives us our first official look at progress toward the ride’s future. As more details emerge about the Muppets version, including new artwork, storyline elements, and possible rebranding plans, we’ll keep you updated with the latest developments — so stay tuned with us at AllEars!
