Did Disney Just Tease What’s Coming to the Magic Kingdom EXPANSION?

Alright, we’re convinced that Disney is teasing us right now, and it’s exciting and agonizing at the same time!

Cinderella Castle

Disney Imagineering recently took to Instagram to post a video to give us a look at what’s going on with the Imagineering Special Effects team. It was filled with awesome projects that the team is testing. As we were watching it, we couldn’t help but feel that some of these special effects could be used for Magic Kingdom’s new Villains Land!

Despite all the amazing things Disney Imagineering has done for the parks, they STILL continue to amaze us with their achievements. In their most recent Instagram video, they showed off some cool projects and prototypes that could MAYBE make their way to the park. When we watched the video, some of the effects were screaming Villains Land. To make it clear, Disney has NOT confirmed this, but we can dream, right?

For starters, the Special Effects team is putting together a prototype of a storm cloud.

It looks like it’s actually floating in the air! We don’t know how they do it…the cloud looks real. The coolest part is the clouds’ special effects. The Imagineer, explaining the prototype, specifically called it a storm cloud, and then proceeded to clap, in which the cloud began to have lightning/stormy effects!

They also had this part of a face that never stops looking at you, whether you move left or right. Very similar to the marble heads effect on the Haunted Mansion, where they “turn” to look at you at all times. This looks like the eyes of some sort of dragon or beast. VILLAINS LAND?!

Another cool thing the team is working on is a crystal with a holographic effect to it!

There were some other effects, like water features, but the last thing that stood out to us the most was this fire effect. It uses lighting, holographic effects, and fibre optics. The cool thing about it is that it looks like a flame you’d see in a classic animated Disney movie.

The flame even turned green…Maleficient!? We don’t want to cause a whole “freak-out” moment for you, but in the video, the Imagineer said the effect would be used for [REDACTED] (with a beep sound over top). What are they hiding from us?!

Disney has yet to announce when Villains Land is set to open. We’re just patiently waiting! The land will be a part of the massive Magic Kingdom expansion and will be located beyond Big Thunder Mountain.
