Sometimes things don’t go as planned in Disney World, and that’s exactly what happened last week when I headed to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

This was my second time at the party, having attended for the first time last year in 2024, and this year, I was really focused on getting some PhotoPass photos in my costume, seeing the Boo-To-You Parade, trying some of the party-only snacks, and doing all I could to make the most of my party ticket. However, right as the party officially began at 7 PM, things started to go wrong. Most noticeably, it started to rain, so much that I officially experienced a rain check — here’s what that looked like.
A rain check is basically when Disney recognizes there’s been so much of a disturbance in the normal party goings that people haven’t gotten the full use of the ticket they paid so much for. For the Halloween party, this may look like multiple of the shows being canceled, rain keeping rare characters from meeting guests outside, or many of the rides being down.

In the case of my party, the rain started right around 7:15 PM and was heavy enough that outdoor rides really couldn’t begin to open back up until around 9:30-10 PM. This also meant that the first parade was canceled, as well as the first Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular. Outdoor characters like Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, Drizella, Belle, Gaston, Ariel and Prince Eric, and Alice in Wonderland characters weren’t able to meet until around the same time. At that time, there were only two hours left of the party, and that wasn’t a lot of time for people to do everything they wanted to.

In addition to the rain issues, Magic Kingdom also suffered another power issue that closed down a lot of indoor rides WHILE outdoor rides were closed due to weather. I personally was in line for Pirates of the Caribbean and likely around 5 minutes away from getting on when the ride went down. I got out of line, and was very glad I did, because the attraction ended up fully going down for the next 15-20 minutes. From around 7-8 PM, all outdoor rides were closed, and Pirates of the Caribbean, TRON Lightcycle / Run, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, and Peter Pan’s Flight all had closure issues.

While the second parade of the night did happen at 11:15 PM, and the rain was gone by then, the weather was still too dangerous for the Headless Horseman to ride, and Powerline Max and his dancers weren’t able to dance on Main Street either. Additionally, the parade was in B mode, which was something I’d never seen before! While the characters and floats still walked along the route, there was no choreographed dancing on the ground, so the Haunted Mansion gravediggers only dragged their shovels behind them and stared menacingly at guests, but it did make for some pretty cool, albeit brief, character interactions.

It was around 10 PM when I was in line to meet the only characters I was DETERMINED to meet (the Hundred Acre Woods gang in their Halloween costumes!) and chatting with the people around me in line that I realized Disney had already done something to officially consider the party a rain check. In the notifications section of the My Disney Experience App, I saw the following message — Disney had given EVERY person at the party a free 1-day park hopping ticket that can be used ANY time from the date of the party through one year later, which would be September 23rd, 2026.

In the past, if you’re at a party you feel has been significantly affected by rain, or other technical issues, you can go to Guest Services and politely explain how you feel your party was affected and maybe not worth the cost you paid. We’ve seen Disney offer tickets to another after hours party for free to make up for the issues, but it seems by doing this, Disney was staying one step ahead of it all.

It’s not guaranteed, but if your party is rained out — this is something to keep an eye on. You can always check with Guest Relations if your party is rained out, too!

Have you ever had a party rained out? Tell us in the comments!

A Christmas party a few years ago got rained out. It was very heavy rain all night. Being with my two 3 year old grandgirls we left. The next day I went to customer service at the Magic Kingdom. They had said that everyone would get the one day park hopper ticket or you could get a refund.
I took the refund.
