Disney World is a lot of things, but one of the realities that sometimes people don’t want to talk about is that it’s WILDLY overstimulating.

Personally, I’m autistic, so I’m already sensitive to sensory aspects of the world, but anyone can get overstimulated in Disney World. There’s so much planning to be done, so many people crowded around you, lots of sounds and unfamiliar experiences you’re faced with almost constantly — it’s enough to overwhelm a lot of people. Since I go to Disney World already knowing I’m going to have a harder time, you won’t find me in the parks without this ONE thing.
When I head to Disney World, I make sure that my handy dandy Loop Earplugs are in my bag at all times! Now, I’d heard Loop Earplugs talked about for at least a year before I decided to get them, because I honestly thought I was managing just fine. Sure, I actively avoided certain rides or experiences because the noise was a no-go for me, but I figured they couldn’t help THAT much.

WOW was I wrong! I personally decided to get the Switch version, meaning that there are three different levels of sound I can choose to let through. The most open setting is great for live shows like fireworks or Fantasmic! where you still want to hear everything clearly but want to protect your ears, the middle setting is great for conversations, blocking out background noise while still allowing you to hear the people close to you. Finally, the most closed setting is best for when you want to block out as much as you can.

Now to be clear, these are NOT the same as noise cancelling headphones, and if that’s more in line with what you need/what you’re looking for, then it’s best to invest in those. However, if you’re just looking for something to tone down the world a bit, these are the way to go in my eyes.

What I especially love about these is how discreet they are. Not that I’m ashamed of who I am or the accommodations I need to make for myself, but I don’t like to wear my noise cancelling headphones unless I have to (and that’s happened before too — I was SO glad I had them in my bag!). These I can pop in super easily without too much fuss, they stay in with no issues and don’t feel like they’ll fall out, and ultimately, they changed the game for me. I wear them outside of Disney World too! To the store, the movie theater (THAT’S a big one — movies are SO loud), on public transportation, everything in between.

There’s a new version of the Loop Switch Earplugs available online right now, so if you’re interested, you can grab them below (or look at the other options to see if there’s another style that works better for you)!
