BREAKING: Muppets Courtyard Announces PERMANENT CLOSURE To Make Way for NEW Monsters Inc. Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

We’ve been looking forward to learning more about Disney World’s upcoming Monsters, Inc. land project.

The new land will be coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and after studying the concept art, we had a bad feeling that this land would replace the Muppets area of Hollywood Studios and close Muppet*Vision 3D. Well, Disney has confirmed that this is true, but let’s just say it isn’t all bad news for Muppets fans.

Disney confirmed the location of the Monsters, Inc. land at the south side of Hollywood Studios, where Muppets Courtyard currently sits. The new land will feature Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster recreating the door vault scene from the Monsters, Inc. movie, as well as new dining options, stores, and a “whole new theater show.”

Disney also revealed, though, that Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and their friends will be “moving right along to Sunset Boulevard.” But the biggest takeaway from the new reveal is that The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, “teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.”

According to Disney, “We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster. Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!”

Disney also promised there was still plenty of time to enjoy the Aerosmith version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and catch up on Muppet*Vision 3D before its closure. Disney also promised that it would still have “creative conversations” about Muppet*Vision 3D and “exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.”

  1. I’m so exited for the re-them of Rockin Roller Coster. I hope that the Monsters Inc Laugh Floor will be moved into the Monsters Inc land. I’m hoping that Pizza Rizzo’s will have better tasting food.

  2. Not impressed. All they are doing is getting rid of rides and shows and retheming. They should be building new rides. The muppet 3D show is a piece of art and should be preserved. The retheming of Splash Mountain was a disaster.

  3. The whole area could be transformed into Muppets Land.

The Lightning McQueen show ended so that they can refurbish the auditorium into a theater for the new Villains show. That show could be moved to the new Villains Land in MK once it opens.

This would make the theater next to Rock n Rollercoaster available for the Muppets 3D show (or an updated version of it). Putting the Ms Piggy fountain in that area shouldn’t be too difficult. There’s already a snack stand back there, or Fairfax Fare and Hollywood Scoops could be re-themed to the Muppets hosted by the Swedish Chef. It could work. It might take a few years, but I think it’s doable.

  4. So DHS will continue to separate Star Tours from the rest of the Star Wars attractions by wedging a Monsters Inc ride in where the Muppets theater is now?

The Muppets area also should be Star Wars-themed (a Grogu show?) and Monsters can go in the Animators area since it is, you know, animated.

I’m fine with the Muppets moving to the Rocking Roller Coaster because: ANIMAL!
