The Disney World Virtual Queue Problem Fans Are Calling “A Bit Absurd”

OK, it’s true. EPCOT is pretty low on major thrill rides. In fact, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the only roller coaster in the park. As one of the park’s biggest rides, it’s no surprise that Cosmic Rewind is still super popular two years after opening. The attraction operates via virtual queue access, too, meaning there is no regular standby line. You have to put in a little extra effort if you want to ride this attraction, and not everyone is happy about that rule.

So, how does this virtual queue work, and how hard is it to score a ride with the Guardians? Let’s talk about it!

OK, first, let’s do a little overview. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is an indoor coaster with a BACKWARDS launch, iconic music, and a smooth, curvy track. It’s a SUPER fun ride, and it’s quite popular.

Despite the ride’s popularity, not everyone has rave reviews. According to one AllEars reader, the process of trying to get a virtual queue each day was…challenging. The reviewer explained, “Unfortunately, the virtual queue for this ride is a bit absurd. We tried for 10 straight days and unable to get in.” During busy times of the year, the virtual queue has been known to fill up in less than a minute.

We’ve seen the virtual queue fill up in seconds, and we don’t want anyone else to be as unlucky as some of our readers! That’s why we made a list of some of the best tips to maximize your chances of getting into the Cosmic Rewind virtual queue. Let’s get into it!

Tip #1: Come Prepared

This might seem like a no-brainer, but you MUST be prepared before it’s time to try and get in the virtual queue.

What do you do to prepare? Well, for starters, make sure you have a valid park ticket (or an Annual Pass). Make sure you know who wants to ride with you and confirm your party before the virtual queue opens. Basically, get all your ducks in a row BEFORE the queue opens. Oh, and make sure you know the steps you’ll be taking once it’s time to join a boarding group.

Practice on the My Disney Experience app

If you have the My Disney Experience app, congratulations! You’re one step closer to getting into a boarding group. Now, before you try to join the virtual queue, you can practice the steps ahead of time by learning where to go for the virtual queue. Usually, you just need to scroll down slightly on the main page to find the Virtual Queue section.

As we said above, you can verify your party for the virtual queue BEFORE the queue opens, so don’t wait until the queue is open to confirm! Also, double-check that your party is accurate.

Set an Alarm

This one is SUPER important: set multiple alarms for the morning you’re trying to join the virtual queue. The virtual queue opens daily at 7AM (which you can join from anywhere as long as you have a valid park ticket) and 1PM (which you can only join from inside EPCOT). Whether it’s early in the morning or in the middle of your park day, we have one thing to say: SET AN ALARM.

Oh, and don’t set the alarm for 6:59AM or 12:59PM. It takes time to open the app, navigate to the virtual queue screen, and confirm your party. Give yourself time to get prepared!

Secure that Virtual Queue

OK, now you know the steps, you know the times, but now you have to make sure that you’re FAST enough. If you’re trying to book that reservation, we like to have someone else watch the secondhand on a clock to help you count down while you keep the virtual queue screen open on your phone. That way, you can swipe down to refresh your screen or hit “refresh” right at 6:59AM or 12:59PM.

 

Our biggest tip here is DO NOT HESITATE! As soon as it’s time, tap, tap, tap as fast as you can. If you hesitate, you could miss out.

Think fast! As soon as the virtual queue pops up, don’t read — just tap fast! Then, all that’s left is to RIDE!
