Why Magic Kingdom Fans Will Be Counting Down the Days Until October 16th in Disney World

There are TONS of events that go on around Disney World throughout the year.

Magic Kingdom

This fall, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is happening at Magic Kingdom while the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival will begin on August 29th! While we love these fall events, we’ll be waiting impatiently for October 16th because that’s when one of our favorite rides will be reopening from a temporary refurbishment closure! That’s right, another ride is closing this week in Disney World, and we’re going to miss it a whole lot along with the other closures for August 25th through September 1st.

Jungle Cruise

It’s no joke, the Jungle Cruise is closing in Magic Kingdom on August 26th!

The ride will be temporarily closed until October 16th. We’ll miss this punny ride while it’s closed! If you’re missing the Skippers as much as us, you can always visit them at Skipper Canteen in Magic Kingdom or at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. A trip to Magic Kingdom just isn’t the same without those silly Skipper jokes!

This ride will be the only ride closed in Magic Kingdom, but there are plenty of other closures in Disney World this week!

Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade

The opening day attraction, the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade, officially closed on June 23rd.

Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade

This closure is to make room for a new DVC lounge that will soon be coming to Frontierland. This will be the third DVC lounge in Disney World, but we don’t have an opening date, yet.

Tomorrowland Terrace

Tomorrowland Terrace is a restaurant in Magic Kingdom that has usually only been open occasionally, generally during particularly busy seasons. However, it’s been a LONG time since we’ve seen this spot open at all.

Currently, it’s only used for Magic Kingdom fireworks dessert parties, and there’s no word on when it might serve food again.

Test Track

Test Track closed on June 17th and we don’t have any information about its reopening date or timeline yet.  The ride is being reimagined! Disney recently released more details and announced that the ride will reopen in 2025!

Construction progress at Test Track

We know that the ride will continue to be a partnership with Chevrolet and that they will be taking some inspiration from the original ride World of Motion.

The Voyage of the Little Mermaid as we know it will NOT return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s closed now, and Disney has confirmed that this show has permanently closed to make way for an updated version.

“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure”, an all-new stage show, will replace the show in the Animation Courtyard theater in Fall 2024.

Blizzard Beach

Typhoon Lagoon was closed for several months but finally opened on March 17th, 2024! Woo hoo!

Typhoon Lagoon

However, on that same day (March 17th) Blizzard Beach closed for refurbishments. Since it just closed, we do not know when it will reopen again, but since 2020 we’ve noticed that the two water parks generally flip-flop being open.

That means that, even though it’s currently summertime and thus peak water park season, we may only have one option of water parks to go to. We’ll be watching for news of Blizzard Beach reopening, but for now, just head over to Typhoon Lagoon!

World Premiere Food Court — All-Star Movies Resort

The World Premiere Food Court was supposed to officially reopen on July 31st, however that was not the case.

World Premiere Food Court

Disney recently updated its website to say that the refurbishment will be ongoing until mid-October. Throughout this refurbishment the restaurant hasn’t been totally closed! You can still use mobile order to choose food items off a limited menu and seating is available at the food court and at the arcade. We’ll keep you posted on its full reopening!

Everything Pop Food Court — Pop Century Resort

Everything Pop Food Court is a surprisingly great place to grab a bite of food if you’re staying at Disney’s Pop Century Resort.

However, this food court will be getting some work done on it from July 29th until September 29th. While it’s undergoing refurbishment, Disney has mentioned that you may still order food and drinks here via mobile order on the Disney World app. Alternate entrances may need to be used, though.
