Fire up those streaming services; a new Disney documentary is live.

In recent years, several major Disney Parks-related documentary projects have been released, from the The Imagineering Story and two seasons of Behind the Attraction on Disney+ to How Disney Built America on the History channel. Now, another Disney documentary is making its Disney+/Hulu debut.
Originally airing on the National Geographic Channel back in April, EPCOT Becoming: Inside the Transformation made its way to both Disney+ and Hulu on July 19th.

The 44-minute documentary examines the park’s years in the making “reimagining.” According to Disney, “Dedicated to reimagining EPCOT for a new generation, Walt Disney Imagineer teams go from inspiration and innovation to overcoming challenges, and ultimately racing against the clock, to debut the much anticipated Luminous: The Symphony of Us nighttime fireworks show, and other additions to the historical theme park.”

EPCOT’s somewhat controversial transformation saw the park gain several big additions, including Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana, and the transformation of the main plaza at the middle of the park, with the additions of Dreamer’s Point and CommuniCore Hall. While some of those additions, especially the rides, are popular, how well they “fit” into EPCOT has been debated. Furthermore, CommuniCore Hall has been met with intense derision.

Beyond that, some of EPCOT’s transformations did not quite come to fruition, including the proposed transformation of the former Wonders of Life into the PLAY! Pavilion, a massive refurbishment to Spaceship Earth, a Mary Poppins ride in the World Showcase’s United Kingdom, and the original, more grandiose World Celebration Festival Center that became CommuniCore Hall.

With EPCOT’s reimagining “complete” with the opening of the aforementioned CommuniCore Hall in June 2024, it seems that most of those projects have been dropped from future plans entirely.

Over the last several years, EPCOT has been completely– and controversially — changed. The EPCOT Becoming: Inside the Transformation documentary, now available on Disney+, gives a glimpse into that process. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on EPCOT!
