NEW DETAILS Revealed About Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ Stage Show Coming to Hollywood Studios

MORE change is on its way to Disney’s Hollywood Studios soon!

Animation Courtyard

It’s not uncommon now to say goodbye to an attraction in Disney World only to anticipate it reopening as a brand new attraction. We’ve already seen this happen with Splash Mountain becoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and most recently with the Country Bear Jamboree. So we were sad to hear that The Voyage of the Little Mermaid wouldn’t be reopening after its extended closure like most other things had. Instead, it seems that Disney had even MORE plans in mind for this former attraction and now we’re getting MORE details about what is to come in its place!

There’s been a vacancy in Disney’s Hollywood Studios for quite some time, but all that is about to change soon! Disney announced in late 2023 that a newly reimagined show featuring The Little Mermaid would be replacing the former Voyage of the Little Mermaid stage show in Animation Courtyard. The new show is set to be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure”.

We knew things were getting serious about this new show when Disney started sharing a few differences we could expect to see from the new show, so naturally, we figured more announcements were to follow soon!

During a media preview of upcoming changes coming to the Disney World parks, we got some new intel on the Little Mermaid show replacing the former Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Disney shared that there will be two new songs that weren’t in the last show: “Daughters of Triton” and “Kiss the Girl.” Not only that, but there will be new sets and new puppets.

New sets

Disney executives shared that when it comes down to it, it’s “really a brand new show,” and that the set is “inspired by the way a teenager would decorate their walls.”

SO cool

The new show will use motion capture and will “blend live performers and puppetry with a digital environment” and we’re told that Ursula will be live on stage — and represented digitally in a “larger than life” battle scene.

As it stands now, the expected timeline for this show to debut in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is set for Fall 2024 — but we’re still waiting on an official opening date. Don’t worry, we’re just as excited about this new show as you are and we’ll be looking out for the latest updates.
