5 BIG Hotel Changes Announced for Disney World This Year

Disney World is experiencing a lot of changes right now. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is opening in June in Magic Kingdom, and CommuniCore Hall & Plaza is opening in June in EPCOT.  We are also expecting Country Bear Musical Jamboree to open up this year and Test Track will be undergoing a refurbishment.

However, the theme parks aren’t the only places getting a bit of love in Disney World. There are also lots of changes coming to the Disney World hotels and we are rounding up some of the biggest changes coming to hotels in Disney World this year.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

We are starting off over at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, which is undergoing a massive makeover in the cabin section of the resort. The cabins at Fort Wilderness will be changing in a huge way. Over 350 cabins will be brought in to replace the current cabins at the resort.

These cabins will feature a bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, and private patio that have a modern flair while still paying reflecting the resort’s unique culture.

The first set of cabins will be opening on July 1st, 2024, followed by a second set later in the month. Additional sets of cabins will continue to be opening throughout the rest of the year.

Spacious layout in the kitchen!

These cabins are similar to the previous ones with a few big differences. The floor plan of the new cabins is more open and only has one bedroom. The bathroom will be located on one end of the cabin, and the bedroom will be located on the other end with the dining and living area in the middle.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

As well, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is also getting a new addition. The Polynesian is well-loved by many guests, and you really can’t beat enjoying a Dole Whip on the beach while watching the fireworks. The resort’s expansion is getting closer to being finished.

At the end of 2024, Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will be welcoming its first guests. Guests will be able to begin booking rooms in June 2024, with an anticipated opening date of December 2024.

Construction is ongoing

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn has been undergoing refurbishments for a bit now, and while construction has made good progress, you may still see construction ongoing. The resort is already sporting a new lobby, but several other areas are still being worked on.

Currently, guest rooms are undergoing refurbishments. This could result in a few changes to reservations but will also cause some noise pollution due to the work being done. We also noticed work being done on the outside of BoardWalk Inn recently.

As well, we have also been keeping an eye on some new dining options in the BoardWalk area. The Cake Bake Shop has been under construction for a while now, and we have seen them hiring recently as well as adding a sign to the front of the store. We are still waiting for an official announcement for the opening date, but we are getting closer!

Additionally, Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs is opening up a stand at Disney World. This stand is incredibly popular over in Downtown Disney, and soon we will be able to enjoy the famous corn dogs here at Disney World. We have seen signs start to go up at Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs as well, but we are also still waiting for an opening date announcement.

Additionally, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter is also going to be getting some refurbished rooms. Constructions on these rooms will begin in May 2024 and is expected to last through November 2024.

Most amenities are expected to remain open during this refurbishment, but you can also expect to see and hear the construction work being done during this time.

Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Similarly to Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Port Orleans — French Quarter, Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will see some changes coming to its resort rooms as well. Beginning in September 2024, refurbishments of the guest rooms will begin.

The refurbishment is expected to last about a year and the rooms will be done in batches. While this refurbishment will not be completed this year, it may still have an impact on your stay. Guests may be able to stay in newly renovated rooms towards the end of the year, but also note that you may see and hear construction work going on during this time frame as well. The construction is expected to be completed in September 2025.
