NEWS: Fire Reportedly Breaks Out on Fireworks Platform in EPCOT

It appears a platform utilized in the Harmonious nighttime spectacular at EPCOT has reportedly caught on fire.

Evacuations, emergencies, and other unique situations can happen within Disney World. In the past, we’ve seen evacuations, a fire that broke out in Magic Kingdom, and even rides closed following lightning strikes in the area. Now, it seems a fire broke out in one area of EPCOT.

Various individuals posted videos and photos online on the evening of October 21st, 2022, that seemed to show a platform associated with the Harmonious nighttime spectacular on fire in the EPCOT World Showcase lagoon.

According to Scott Gustin via Twitter, Disney confirmed that the fire only impacted a fireworks launch platform.

Disney reportedly stated the following: “A fireworks launch platform had a contained fire after Friday’s show and was extinguished.”

For those who may not be aware, Harmonious is the nighttime spectacular offered at EPCOT. It is one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created for a Disney park and features moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics, and floating screens. Throughout the show, guests hear music and see images portraying the characters and worlds from Moana, Aladdin, Coco, The Lion King, and more.

Keep in mind that Harmonious will actually be replaced in 2023 with a new nighttime spectacular in EPCOT, though details about that show have not yet been shared.

This actually isn’t the first time a fire has been associated with the Harmonious show. In early 2022, a fire broke out after a Harmonious showing. At that time, some fireworks debris fell onto a loading dock for the Friendship boats and part of the dock appeared to catch on fire as a result. The fire was put out quickly without the need for emergency vehicles and no one was reported to have been injured.

A fire was also reported in Magic Kingdom near Cinderella Castle back in 2021. In that instance, the restaurant within the Castle (Cinderella’s Royal Table) was evacuated and emergency vehicles were dispatched to the scene. The small fire was reportedly extinguished through the use of a single fire extinguisher.

As noted above, emergencies and evacuations can take place in Disney World, though often they are handled very quickly.

If you ever find yourself in Disney World when a situation like this has taken place, be sure to carefully listen to all instructions from Cast Members. They may advise individuals to leave a certain area, evacuate one space, or move to another location. It is critical to listen to all instructions and follow their directions to keep everyone safe.
