PHOTO: First Look at NEW 50th Anniversary Lighting for EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth

In just a few weeks, Disney World turns 50 years old. And there’s a massive 18-month-long party planned to celebrate!

We’re already seeing a lot of signs of the celebration in the parks. From the new character statues to a new topiary, to a complete transformation of EPCOT that’s still underway, we’re excited to see it all.

And today, we got a sneak peek of what the “Beacon of Magic” lights will look like on Spaceship Earth. We’ve seen Imagineers testing the lighting, but Imagineer Zach Riddley just shared a photo of what it looks like up close.

He wrote on his Instagram, “This first-look image actually gives you a glimpse into the near future when the night will come alive in an entirely new way with this Beacon of Magic. Inspired by past and future, the classic Spaceship Earth color gradients will be rendered richer by our new lighting fixtures, evoking twinkling starlight in an evening sky.”

He went on to say that he can’t wait for Disney World guests to see it on October 1st. We can’t wait! And we’ll be covering everything about Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration, so be sure to stay tuned for more.
