An unfortunate incident took place at EPCOT recently that involved a violent act against a Cast Member.

A brief altercation occurred recently between a guest and a security Cast Member that required the intervention of law enforcement. The incident surrounded Disney World’s current face mask policy.
Orlando Sentinel reported that a guest has been charged with misdemeanor battery after hitting a security Cast Member in the head and threatening to kill him on August 14th. According to the report, the altercation occurred after the guest and his family were told they were not wearing the proper face masks while at the security checkpoint on their way into EPCOT.

In a statement released by Disney, it was noted that “the vast majority of guests have adapted to our new measures.” Disney’s new face mask policies are among the most noticeable changes made in the parks since reopening.

Disney World’s current face mask policy requires that all guests above the age of 2 wear proper face coverings while in the parks. Masks must not contain valves or holes of any kind. In addition, neck gaiters and bandanas are not considered a proper face covering. Masks must remain on at all times, unless the guest is in one of the park’s Relaxation Stations, or when they are seated to dine or eating in a stationary position.

I have not been to Disney since the Pandemic started and the parks reopened. So I am not sure how things are setup. But I would suggest two things: First: I hope Disney has a face mask sales area outside the gates so the appropriate face masks can be purchased long before you get to security, if you don’t have one. Second: Disney should sell masks at cost and make sure they have low cost options available (or free ones like many places offer). I think Disney could still make a go of it if they didn’t make a profit off face mask sales
I hope the cast member is ok. They better be banned for life.
This is disgusting – I’ve heard that wearing a mask in the US is a political statement but there is never an excuse for violence! I hope they throw him in jail as an example!
