Get Your Park Backpack Ready for a Day at Disney!

We talk a lot about getting packed for your trip to Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort, but there’s one smaller bag that’s equally important when you’re headed to the parks: your backpack!

Cute Minnie Loungefly Backpacks

Some people can do a day at Disney bag-free, and if that’s you, more power to ya (and tell us your secrets!)! If not, you may be like the rest of us and need a bag for the necessities. So, let’s take a look at the oh-so-important Disney day bag!

Let’s get your backpack ready for a day at Disney!

Cell Phone

First up, you’re going to want your cell phone! Yes, this is probably the thing that most people are least likely to forget, but it’s also the most important when you’re trying to accomplish your Disney Parks to-do list! You’ll need your phone to keep track of your plans in the My Disney Experience or Disneyland app, to take pictures, and to stay in contact with your group if you separate.

You can also bring a camera if you like. For a lot of us, the cell cameras are enough, but if you really like photography or want the added fun of using a disposable camera, toss one in!

Wallet (with ID and Necessities)

Next up, don’t forget that wallet with your ID and any necessities! Your ID could be important if there are any serious mix-ups with your ticket (or if you want to sip on a cocktail in the parks). And, even though you can pay for things on your MagicBand now, it’s a good idea to have a card in case of emergencies.

Comfort and Cleanliness

Days in the parks can be long, and though Disney has a pretty high standard of cleanliness you’re still going to be in close contact with thousands of people. It’s best to bring along some hand sanitizer to keep your hands clean for eating and some wipes to clean up any sticky messes (or to wipe down those ride vehicles if you’re really trying to cover all of your germy bases).

Pandora Bathroom

We also recommend those little travel packs of tissues. You never know when a runny nose could strike, and travel can mean surprising allergies at times, so be prepared. That way you don’t have to run to the nearest bathroom every time your nose gets stuffy.

If you do get caught unawares with an allergy or other discomfort, the First Aid Centers might be able to help! Learn more about Disney World’s First Aid Centers here.

Sun Protection

Okay, folks, it’s Florida or California, so it’s hot, and it’s sunny. Sunscreen is definitely a must! Even if you don’t usually burn, extended exposure to the sun (like a full day in the park) can really harm your skin! And if it’s a cloudy day? Still put on sunscreen.

Mike Wazowski Sunglasses

You’ll also want to pack some sunglasses to protect your eyes and to keep your eyes comfortable on those bright days!

Weather Protection

And yes there’s a lot of sun, but there can also be some serious rain! Yes, even in California, but mostly in Florida. Bring a poncho and maybe even some dry clothes for the surprise showers. Plus, you’ll want to be comfy and dry when you get off Splash Mountain, won’t you? Throw a poncho on before you climb in your flume to keep yourself and your stuff dry.

Ponchos

In fact, it’s a good idea to bring a variety of other weather protection too! If you’re sensitive to bugs, bring bug spray! And, we always recommend wearing layers. The weather can be unpredictable so leave enough space in your backpack to keep any unused layers.

First Aid

The Disney parks do have dedicated First Aid Centers, but sometimes you need something specific or just a quick fix! Always, always pack any essential medicines (including inhalers or Epipens), and maybe throw a pack of bandaids in there. Having some handy could save you some precious park time!

Sustenance

We know it’s tempting to chow down on everything for sale in the Disney Parks, but if you just need a quick snack without dishing out the cash, you’ll want to have some handy. We like to keep something easy like granola bars or Goldfish crackers on hand. Mints or gum are a great item to have, too; it’s nice to freshen up after a flavorful meal, and there’s no gum sold anywhere in Disney Parks!

Incredibles Goldfish

Another great tip is to bring a plastic baggie or two! Portion sizes at Disney are notoriously large, even for snacks! When you can’t quite finish up that pastry, pack it in a baggie, and toss it into your backpack for later.

For Fun

Finally, there are a few optional items you’ll want just for fun! Even grown-ups might want to bring along an autograph book and a pen! Meeting characters and collecting autographs can be a real treat!

Many areas of Disney Parks also have pressed coin machines which are super cheap and fun souvenirs! Bring along a small bag of pennies to press and quarters to pay for it, and you’ll have a fun way to remember your time in the Parks.
