Answering Your #1 Question About the Carousel of Progress Changes in Disney World

When we first heard that the Carousel of Progress was changing in Magic Kingdom, we went “AHHHHHHHHHHHH.” Once we calmed ourselves down, we started to have some questions that you might be asking yourself.

As major fans of the Carousel of Progress and the history it represents, to say we were concerned is an understatement. What’s happening to one of our favorite rides? Will it still feel the same? Will it still feel like a classic attraction? What about the music? Well, we have some answers that might make you feel better.

We weren’t the only ones who felt so strongly about the Carousel of Progress. When we spoke to Disney about the changes, they actually felt very similar to us. A lot of Imagineers on the project felt that they had mixed feelings about it, but they care a lot about the ride and want to make it the best they can.

They said, “Rest assured, know that when we talk about a classic like this…our Imagineers take the utmost care in how we approach that.” They also plan to “leave it better than they found it,” and that makes us feel so much better.

Something we’re very happy about is that “Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” by the Sherman Brothers will be staying in the ride! Thanks goodness — imagine the ride without it?

The attraction will be closing on July 6th, 2026, and is set to reopen in 2027. New decades are being added to the attraction, including the 1960s, 1980s, the new millennium, and the possible future.
