Cinderella Castle is getting a makeover soon! The Magic Kingdom icon will ditch the current pink color and return to the classic creams and blues. The repainting is expected to begin in January, but how long will it take to be comepleted? How long will it be until we can see the new look in full?

Disney hasn’t announced an exact end date yet, but we’re making a bit of an educated guess based on its previous makeover. How long will the Cinderella Castle repainting take in Disney World? Let’s take a look back!
Disney has announced that the repainting will begin in early January 2026 and will be completed later in 2026. What does “later in 2026” mean, and how long can we expect the repainting to take? A great question! Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact answer. We can, however, take a look at how long it took to paint Cinderella Castle when it was updated to the current pink color.

Cinderella Castle was updated to its current look to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Cinderella and Disney World’s 50th anniversary. The color was changed to celebrate Cinderella’s 70th anniversary, and later, additional decorations, such as drapes, golden “ribbon” wraps, and a 50th medallion, were added. Now, the question is: how long did the transformation take?

Here’s the thing. The castle was mostly transformed during the COVID-19 pandemic when Disney World was shut down. Disney World was shut down from March 2020 until July 2020, and Cinderella Castle’s transformation was completed in July 2020.

In March 2020, just before the closures, the only progress made on the new look was the draining of the moats surrounding the castle. Then Disney World closed until July 2020 due to the pandemic. When we attended Cast Previews in Magic Kingdom in July 2020, most of the work was done. We did spot cranes putting the finishing touches on the new paint, but most of the castle was completed.

That means most of the work was done during the closure. We don’t know how many hours of work were done each day, or even when exactly the work started during the closure. In total, it took about 5 months, but we don’t know how accurate that will be this time around.

Disney has already stated that the cranes being used to repaint the castle will be lowered and out of sight by noon each day. We think it is pretty likely that they will be working on the painting overnight, once the park closes, until noon the next day. Again, it is hard to compare the two situations, as we don’t know how much time workers spent on the castle during the pandemic. We can probably guess that the transformation will take at least 5 months, as there will be a bit more time limitations this time around, but we don’t know for sure.

Of course, we will keep you updated on the castle’s progress, and we will let you know as Disney makes more announcements. We are in the parks every single day and always on the lookout for Disney news, so be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for more!
