Join Me As We Drink Our Way Through The Menu at Disney's OTHER Pirates of the Caribbean Bar

Have you ever been on a Disney Cruise and thought, “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool to drink at a pirate-themed bar on the ship?” Most ships already host a pirates night, right? It would make sense.

Well, Disney finally got the hint because you can drink at a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed bar on the Disney Destiny called Cask & Cannon. During a media preview, I had a chance to check out this bar, and I’m giving you my full and honest review.

Background

The Cask & Cannon is a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed space, and it’s a relaxed lounge with an “extensive” variety of spirits and brews, with “some served straight from the barrel in true pirate style.”

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

The idea behind Cask & Cannon is that you’re having a drink inside a real pirate ship, and the bar being located on an actual ship lends a lot to its authenticity.

The lounge is this cozy space with super comfy chairs and lots of nautical themes…with a pirate twist, of course. The mismatched furniture is intentional because it’s been looted from everywhere this pirate ship has sailed. You’ll also spot other stolen artifacts, as well as treasure maps.

The lounge is pretty big, too, and there’s plenty of seating for everyone. Also, don’t forget to look up because you’ll see some cool details on the ceiling, too. You’ll also find fishing nets, barrel stools, rum bottles, and more things that pirates love.

Oh, look! It’s artwork with a cask and cannon. Not even subtle, but I love it.

Those nautical details include the carpeting, like the compass and kraken tentacles you can see here.

But enough about that, let’s talk about the food and drinks.

Food & Drinks

You can order some eats at the Cask and Cannon, like the Fried Coconut Shrimp and Prawn Crackers….

…Fish and Chips…

…The Cask & Cannon Pub Platter, and more. I didn’t have a chance to try out any of the food, but there were drinks!

First, we have to mention that all the drinks here have rum in them. Captain Jack Sparrow will never have to worry about running out of rum here!

To drink, I picked up the Shiver Me Timbers for $20, made with Barrel Aged
Goslings Spirited Seas Ocean Aged Rum, Demerara, and Orange Bitters. This really tastes like an old fashioned, but with rum. It’s a strong drink, but it’s still really smooth. It’s a bit less sweet than a traditional old fashioned, so it has a bit of a bite. You also get some orange flavor on the nose, as well as some citrus in the bitters.

The Drink Up Me Hearties is made with Bacoo 11 Year Tequila Cask Rum, Patron Reposado Giffard Banane du Bresil, and Cream for $15. So this is a drink for those who like something like a Pina Colada. It doesn’t have pineapple in it, but it does have cream and banana liqueur, so it’s tropical and fruity. It’s also pretty sweet. The cream has a tendency to float to the top, so be sure to give this one a good stir.

Then we released The Kraken for $14. This drink is made with Kraken Black Spiced Rum, Cointreau, Lime, Orgeat, and Ginger. This drink is like ginger beer spiked with rum, and those are the main flavors we got from it. It’s not super complex, but it’s a drink that’s just sweet enough and leaves a warm burn in your tummy. If you love a Moscow Mule, this could be your drink of choice here, but with rum instead of vodka. With a name like The Kraken, though, I expected something more.

The coolest thing I got to order, though, was the Dead Man’s Chest
Experience for $25. It’s a whole EXPERIENCE meant for two people. So here’s what happens: the server brings out a small wooden treasure chest, opens it, and inside are two cocktails set on lights so they’re glowing through smoke that spills out. Like I said, it’s an EXPERIENCE.

You’ll even find some gold-wrapped chocolate coins tucked in the bottom. The cocktails are made with Zacapa 23 Solera Rum, Pineapple, Lime, Agave, and Coconut Froth. At $25 for two, this is a really good deal, considering cocktails on the ship tend to run around $18 to $25 each. So grab a friend for this one.

The drink itself is served in a highball glass. It tastes like a classic tropical rum punch. You get strong pineapple and coconut flavors, with the pineapple being the strongest of the two.

It’s a nice vacation-type drink, plus you get to have a fun experience with a friend.

Magic or Tragic?

You love Pirates of the Caribbean. If you’re a big Pirates fan, you’ll find a lot of fun Easter Eggs and details in this bar that will make you happy.
You like rum. If you identify with Captain Jack Sparrow and need to drink ALL the rum, you’ll find plenty of it here because it’s in every single drink.
You want am experience. If you want a drink comes with a dramatic presentation, you’ll find a few here, like the Dead Man’s Chest, that will leave you feeling sated and entertained.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

You don’t like rum. Every drink here has rum in it, so if you don’t like rum, you’re not going to find anything on the menu that will please you.
You’re on a budget. Drinking on a Disney Cruise can be pricey, and that’s no different here.
You don’t really care about theming. If you just want a drink without all the dramatic elements and scenery, you can grab one at any of the bars on board the ship.

The Cask & Cannon is a lot of fun, and I really loved being able to drink in a Pirates-themed bar while on a ship. However, if you’ve visited Beak and Barrel in Magic Kingdom, Disney’s first Pirates of the Caribbean lounge, you might be disappointed because this lounge has a more relaxed feel in both the menu and atmosphere.
