Disney Quietly Announces Permanent Closure of a Magic Kingdom Snack Stand

Disney World giveth, and Disney World taketh away. We learned that firsthand earlier this week when it was revealed that a new snack stand, AstroFizz, would be coming to Magic Kingdom.

But, of course, Disney can’t just create space out of thin air (yet), so in order to make AstroFizz happen, we have to say goodbye to another — some might say iconic — Magic Kingdom snack stand. Cool Ship, your time is coming to an end.

Disney announced that AstroFizz will be coming to Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom! And, while they didn’t officially announce where it would be going, the AstroFizz page on the Disney World website shows it will be located in the former Cool Ship snack stand.

We had been keeping an eye on Cool Ship for a while, as it had been closed for a bit and seemed to be going through some changes. When it was around, you could find water, soda, popcorn, ice cream, and an iconic misting station that helped folks cool down on those hot Florida days.

A few months before AstroFizz was announced, we hopped on the PeopleMover to see what was going on at Cool Ship, and were shocked to see that the entire structure had been totally removed. The Cool Ship finally blasted off into space, apparently.

But then, another ride on the PeopleMover in September revealed that an entirely new structure — still somewhat spaceship-shaped — had been installed in the former location. The new look is a bit more sleek and retrofuturistic looking, with no big red spaceship in sight.

Disney hasn’t announced yet exactly when AstroFizz will open, just that it is “coming soon.” Hours are not yet listed on the Disney World website, but there is a description that says, “Fuel up at this space-age stand featuring buttery popcorn and fluffy cotton candy. Then, before you blast off again, cool off with a refreshing beverage—like frozen slushies or assorted Coca-Cola® Fountain Beverages.”

We also got a sneak peek at the menu! Get ready for Coca-Cola, Fanta Blue Raspberry, and Fanta Orange Frozen Slushies, along with assorted fountain beverages…

…a Cherry Cola Churro, which is rolled in cherry sugar, drizzled with Coca-Cola Cherry icing, and topped with cherry popping candies…

…and of course, popcorn! Disney also confirmed cotton candy will be sold here.
