We’ve been waiting rather impatiently for more news about Disney World’s new Villains Land that’s being built in Magic Kingdom just behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Now, we’ve seen signs of construction in that spot, but as far as updates go, we haven’t really had many. Well, according to The Wrap, we could finally have some big updates about the new land, including rides it could potentially have.
DISCLAIMER: This is primarily speculation, and things can and likely will change with Villains Land as it progresses.
The big takeaway from the article is that, reportedly, the concept of the land has changed. The original concept art showed off what might have been a dark and scary roller coaster themed around Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. However, that has potentially changed. The new concept could be a more family-friendly land, with the roller coaster themed around The Emperor’s New Groove.
The roller coaster might be more in line with Slinky Dog Dash in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, something that isn’t quite as scary or intense as what we saw in the original concept art for Villains Land. According to the report by The Wrap, the question everyone is thinking has been answered: the new ride will have a “Pull the lever, Kronk,” moment.
According to The Wrap’s sources, Maleficent will still get her own ride, and it will be something with the complexity of Rise of the Resistance. The idea is that the ride will be a Lightning Lane Single Pass ride, which means it will basically have to be the best ride in the land.
A third ride has also been mentioned, although there isn’t a lot of information about it right now. It is believed to be a carnival-style “flat ride,” which means it could be something like Dumbo the Flying Elephant, except with a villain’s theme.
Sources also indicate that Hades will rule over a dinner show with Pain and Panic, as well as other characters, along for the ride. It will be a full-service, sit-down restaurant with pre-fixe dining.
Another source mentioned that character interactions will also play a big part in the land, similar to Igor in Universal Orlando’s Dark Universe in Epic Universe. There will OBVIOUSLY be shopping and dining opportunities, too.
However, keep in mind that Disney has not made any official announcements yet, and all this is based on what sources close to the project have said. Things could change at any time, but we might know more soon. Sources also suggested that updated plans are due in a few weeks.

Why Disney is celebrating Villians is beyond me. Celebrate HERO’s.
On another blog, I read the flat ride was being considered to be themed to Ursula. So I suppose the Twirl n Hurl at USF would be a better comparison.
I also saw the Maleficent ride being compared to POTC Battle for the Sunken Treasure. I don’t see how a water ride is appropros for a character like the big M. Rather than just her, I hope they take even more inspiration from Monsters Unchained and have her teaming up with more of the heavy hitters like Chernabog and the Horned King.
I am surprised that of all the great Disney Villains, they would lean so heavily on The Emperor’s New Groove. It makes me wonder whether Edgar Balthazar will standing in the center of the flat ride chasing a bunch of cars shaped like the Aristocats. Give me The Shadow Man or the devil (Chernobog–never would have guessed) from Fantasia)!
Praying one of these rides will have a wheelchair accessible vehicle(WAV)… if anything it should be the flat dumbo type of ride since they removed the one from Animal Kingdom.
That would be great to have Maleficent rollercoaster ride. I also want to ride the emperor’s new groove mini coaster ride.
However there must be a Hades river Styx boat ride from Hercules cartoon. 2 other rides I want is either a madam Medusa reckless car ride or cruella de Villa car ride from the rescuers or 101 dalmatians films like with Mr toads wild ride.
What I want Disney imagineers to do in the meantime is retheme Tianas Bayou Adventure for Halloween season from August to December to change it to Dr faciliers magic splash ride based on the princess and the frog film to include Dr facilier, Lawrence, spooky shadow spirits, masks, dolls with the song friends on the other side song but omitting voodoo references to make it a little less scary.
Because villains land may not be finished until close to 2030. In the meantime I want Tianas Bayou Adventure to change into the princess and the frog splash ride for Halloween season from August to December. But for January to July have an improved version of Tianas Bayou Adventure ride with spoonbill birds, lady butterflies and a bluebird and showboat and more animatronic Bayou critters to make it more fun and honor the 1927 Mississippi river flood disaster as a memorial ride. The current official ride is underwhelming and barebones and there’s not much reason to retire it. An improved version would get me flying back to Disneyland and Disney world.
PLEASE tell me the “Family Friendly” description of the Coaster turns out to be incorrect!! This would truly be terrible news. Honestly, MK needs a bona fide roller coaster that adults, teens and even adventurous kids revolve their day around…one that makes TOP RIDE lists nationwide. A Villains land is literally the perfect spot for an attraction this “mature” and it would be a colossal waste of this perfect opportunity if yet another mild, short, underwhelming experience takes up space that is already filled by Seven Dwarfs & Barnstormer. Think ride experience AND theming like Hagrid’s from Universal but even more fantastic! Disney needs to start delivering this, again!
