6 Secrets You Need To Know Before Stopping By This Popular Disney Lounge

Disney’s newest cruise ship has officially set sail, and I got to check it ALL OUT! The Disney Destiny is the home for heroes and villains alike, plus some special spaces on board.

Quincy and I at the Sanctum!

One of those special spaces is The Sanctum, a Doctor Strange-inspired bar! I couldn’t stop marveling (pun intended) at the new space, so I’m sharing some of my favorite secrets and tips from this specialty lounge.

The Sanctum seriously blew me away during my time on the Disney Destiny! This open area is on the third floor of the ship. Once you first enter the Grand Hall, turn to your right and take a short stroll to The Sanctum, across from The Haunted Mansion Parlor.

The Sanctum

This bar is inspired by the Marvel film and comic books, so a majority of the secrets are straight from the world of heroes! I got to speak with some of the Imagineers who worked on this area of the ship, and they seriously spilled. First, they told me about the spell books hidden throughout the decor.

Spell books!

In the comics, Doctor Strange mentions books like the Book of the Vishanti, the Dark Hold, and other magical sources that can be used to develop his powers and create some powerful villains throughout the series. These spell books are from the library of Kamar-Taj for those who know! Another cool secret is that Disney even included the Sanctum’s location on the wall!

The location!

For those who don’t know, The Sanctum is Doctor Strange’s mansion located at 177A Bleecker Street in New York. I love that Disney really took us to NYC with this subtle detail that only real fans will pick up on.

A look inside!

One secret I learned during my time in the bar (where I spent literal hours, by the way!) is that if you want a quick drink, sit directly at the bar. The bar has tons of different seating, like small tables, booths, and barstools. The tables make it feel more like a spot you can sit and relax, but if you want something quick before dinner, you will get faster service at the bar. There were only 2 servers for the tables during my time hanging out, so there was more of a wait between drinks. This is totally fine, as long as you’re prepared!

Another secret is that one of the coolest, interactive drinks might not be what you expect! When Disney shows off the drink, Mirror Dimension, you can see the drink light up when you touch it. I got this experience when I sat at the bar, but when I tried the drink at one of the booth tables, it didn’t come with the stand to make it light up! This was probably the neatest aspect of the drink, so I missed that. The drink was still tasty, but check with your waiter before you order it if that really matters to you!

It lights up!

Finally, one secret that you might miss is that Doctor Strange’s Cloak of Levitation is located in the bar! It’s in a hard-to-see spot, so not everyone will catch this major Marvel nod.

The Cloak of Levitation!

The cloak is on the right side of the area behind the bar. When I spoke with the Imagineers, they told me they were super excited to get approval to include this aspect of the character. This led me to believe it was touch-and-go if they were going to get to use this iconic piece, so I love that it made it in! Finally, one secret is that this lounge gets BUSY in the early afternoons.

So many fun drinks

Not every lounge is open all day on the Disney Destiny. The Sanctum opened earlier in the afternoon during my time on the ship, but other spots like the Haunted Mansion Parlor, Cask and Cannon, and De Vil’s didn’t open for several hours after The Sanctum. This means the Marvel lounge was BUSY since there were many places to g,o and I had to fight for a table. If you know you love to stop by the themed lounges, consider going to this one right when it opens. You can find exact times in your Navigator app! This entire bar was so detailed, and it was so cool to see as a big Marvel fan. Be sure to keep following AllEars for more secrets, tips, and more!
