Why I’m Dreading Going to Epic Universe in 2026

Universal’s Epic Universe opened to great fanfare in 2025, as the new park wowed guests with technologically advanced rides and heavily themed portals. However, as 2026 dawns, some things are beginning to worry us.

Epic Universe

I’m on record as having loved my first trip to Epic Universe last summer. That said, 2026 looks like it could bring anything from unpredictable crowd patterns and weather issues to long lines and perhaps even construction delays.

Lines Likely Aren’t Getting Shorter Anytime Soon

During Epic Universe’s opening summer and fall, certain wait time patterns emerged, chief amongst them that attractions like Harry Potter and the Battle of the Ministry, Donkey Kong Mine-Kart Madness, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, and even Mario Kart are going to regularly have waits up hovering around an hour, closer to two for the Potter attraction in particular.

While initially, some thought these high wait times would die down a bit as the initial burst of opening visitors slowed down. However, thanks to the number of attractions and their capacity, that hasn’t been the case and likely won’t be the case anytime soon.

Weather Issues Will Only Get Worse

Epic Universe’s stacked lineup of 11 attractions features exclusive new E-Tickets, thrilling coasters, and the first Nintendo-based attractions available to East Coast parkers. However, EIGHT of those attractions: Constellation Carousel, Curse of the Werewolf, Dragon Racer’s Rally, Fyre Drill, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, Mine-Cart Madness, Stardust Racers, and Yoshi’s Adventure are all at least partially outdoors, and vulnerable to weather delays.

Fyre Drill

While that’s nothing new for Orlando area theme parks — certainly many rides in Universal’s other parks as well as Disney World’s four theme parks, are operationally dependent on the weather — the fact that such a high percentage of Epic Universe’s attractions can be shut down by inclement weather has been an issue with the park. That will only continue through the winter of 2026, and then into a second summer season.

The AP Question

One of the major questions that’s still hanging over Epic Universe is when and how Universal will open the park to Annual Passholders?

Living that Universal Orlando Annual Passholder life!

The question of whether the park will introduce a new pass tier including Epic or add it to existing tiers (for a higher price) has left AP’s confused on when to plan their visits. The effect goes beyond them, however, as day guests are wondering if their preferred date will suddenly be open to Passholders between when they book and when they visit.

Construction?

While Epic Universe won’t turn a year old until May of 2026, Universal has filed permits for several construction projects around the park, including a permit for site utilities and foundation work for new construction, identified as a 150,000 square foot building. While nothing has been officially announced, and no major attractions or additions seem to be immediately on the horizon, it seems possible that 2026 may seem some construction-related issues around the park.

Will the Shine Wear Off?

Finally, there’s the issue of the park’s newness. Again, to be clear, Epic Universe is a very good theme park with some fantastic rides and intricately themed environments. However, there’s still a question as to whether some of the park’s shine will wear off upon further visits.
