Did This EPCOT World Showcase Treat Just Become the Most Controversial Snack in Disney World?!

Sometimes, our readers surprise us!

Two words: School. Bread.

In my years writing for AllEars, I’ve seen some… unexpected options expressed by our readers. Case in point: Recently, we took to our Facebook page to ask our readers what well-known Disney treats — the ones usually hailed as “must-haves” — didn’t do it for them, and we were certainly bewildered by some of the responses.

We received several answers, covering every Disney snack you can imagine, from savory snacks like turkey legs and cheeseburger spring rolls to theme park staples like pretzels and popcorn. However, the one that jumped out to us was the number of people who brought up the School Bread from EPCOT’s Norway Pavilion.

Now, we’ve made no secret that we’re usually fans of this sweet roll filled with custard and dipped in coconut served at the World Showcase Pavilion’s Kringla Bakeri. It’s usually the precut mix of sweet without being too sweet, and generally the heftiness of it. We even liked it in coffee form!

It literally tastes like School Bread

However, several readers disagreed. As reader Grant put it, “I see the school bread from the Norway pavilion on the top of many lists. It absolutely was not a bad snack, but it certainly did not live up to the hype, and I’m not likely to try it again.”

Reader Kelly was even more specific, explaining that they’d “never been a fan of the school bread in Norway, mostly because I don’t like coconut.” Honestly, we can’t say we blame them there. The coconut is definitely a dominant flavor when enjoying the School Bread, so it’s totally understandable that someone who doesn’t enjoy the flavor would, in turn, not be a fan of the bread.

Kelly did offer an alternative, however, saying they wished more people would “try the Lefse there because I think it would be that pavilion’s signature thing if they did!” We’re not too sure about that, but we do enjoy that soft flatbread rolled with cinnamon, sugar, and butter.

The School Bread in EPCOT’s Norway Pavilion is often hailed — including here — as one of Disney World’s must-have treat options. However, as evidenced by our readers, that’s not a universal opinion.
