Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is changing!

Over in Hollywood Studios, there are some big updates on the horizon. Monsters Inc. Land is underway, and the Muppets are taking over the most intense roller coaster in the park! After Disney’s most recent announcements, we’re left with some big questions.
In case you missed it, Disney finally confirmed that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring the Muppets will open in Summer 2026. The attraction will star Kermit, Miss Piggy, the Electric Mayhem, and more on this high-speed coaster.

We have mixed feelings about the Muppets changes happening in Hollywood Studios, but we won’t deny that these latest announcements made us more excited. They also left us with a few questions. Summer 2026 could mean quite a few things. That range could be anywhere from June 2026 to August 2026, so it leave us wondering — when will the coaster close to begin the changes?

In the past, ride “reimaginings” have taken a while. Test Track took roughly 13 months, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure took about 18 months, and the Country Bears retheme took about 6 months. Best-case scenario, this redo will take roughly 6 months, meaning it could close as late as March 2026 and still be ready for that opening timeline. If we had to make an educated guess, we could see an early 2026 closure happening to have the coaster ready for busy summer crowds.

We won’t know for a while, but we’re hoping Disney gives us a few months’ warning so we can “Walk This Way” a few more times. They have confirmed that the attraction will be open through 2025. The second question Disney left us with was a big one! In their update, they shared that a first of it’s kind Muppet Animatronic will be a part of the attraction. Scooter and the penguin audio engineers will be working hard to ensure that the Electric Mayhem makes it on time to their biggest concert ever.

In the announcement, Disney teased that he may not be the only one in the attraction! They confirmed we won’t know about that until later, but it has left us with so many questions. Will it only be one additional animatronic? Will it be multiple? We have no idea! Selfishly, we’re hoping Kermit and Piggy will be center stage at some point and not just on the screens in the pre-show.

Maybe there can be a cool one in the queue where we can really see it operate, like the Mr. Potato Head animatronic at Toy Story Mania! Or maybe, Miss Piggy will be located at the very start of the ride to count down our launch. We seriously can’t stop daydreaming about what exactly they could mean. This will be one of the first major openings of Disney’s long list of changes, so we’re sitting on pins and needles as we wait for more.

The coaster will see the Muppets “teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.” On the new ride, the Electric Mayhem are headlining their biggest concert EVER. There’s just one big problem: no one knows where the band is. In addition to the chaos inside, G-Force Records will be looking a little different because the Muppets have officially taken over, with some help from Scooter’s uncle, real estate tycoon and owner of the Muppet Theatre, J.P. Grosse. Outside G-Force Records, the large guitar has been given a groovy, colorful makeover inspired by Electric Mayhem’s van. The piano motif at the base will feature a golden key “as a nod to a certain far-out band leader.”

Inside, we will be given VIP passes, which means we can come inside the recording studio, where we discover the Electric Mayhem laying down some sweet tracks with the penguins acting as their audio engineers. Scooter is trying to convince the band to stop their jam session and is asking you to help the band get to the concert venue in time. We’ll get some help from friends at Muppet Labs and a fast limo to “take a twisting, turning, and screamingly fun road trip across Hollywood to reach the concert in time” while passing some iconic scenery and landmarks, which have all been given a Muppets twist, of course.

We are apprehensive but excited to see these changes come to life. As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for the latest news and updates.
