It’s hard to deny the convenience of ordering food to-go in Disney World, but there are also some obvious downsides.

No two Disney World vacations are the same — especially when it comes to dining. While some guests prefer to sit down, take their time, and really embrace a dining atmosphere, others like to embrace the “go, go, go” lifestyle of a theme park, allocating as much time to attractions and entertainment as possible, opting instead for quick-service dining to save time — and money. While quick-service dining and to-go ordering are certainly convenient in that regard, they do come with some potential issues.
We are always reading your restaurant reviews and keeping up with the latest thoughts and opinions, and we recently came across a positive review of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge’s Roaring Fork that had some glowing things to say about the restaurant…but also pointed out a significant issue that applies to to-go eats in general at Disney World.

The review — which gave the restaurant an 8 out of 10 — said, “This is probably one of the best quick service restaurants in Disney World.” However, in the cons section, it did note that to-go “containers make the hot food soggy.”

It’s not really talked about enough, but it’s true that food can get soggy in to-go boxes — regardless of the restaurant! Unfortunately, Disney has yet to crack the scientific code to prevent condensation and temperature issues for its to-go items.
Keep in mind that at table-service restaurants, Disney cares a lot about plating not only to make the food look pretty, but also to help preserve meal consistency and quality. That luxury is voided when food has to be plopped into a to-go container.

That’s not the only problem plaguing food on the go. You also run the risk of having a bunch of food in your hands and nowhere to eat it!
When you grab food from a window or counter, it then becomes YOUR responsibility to find some place to enjoy it. On busy days around prime dining times, seating can be limited, and you may be forced to stand and eat. All in all, finding some place to actually enjoy your meal can be a challenge.

Then there’s the problem that comes up if something is wrong with your order.

When dining with a server, you can simply talk to them and quickly resolve the issue. HOWEVER, when getting food to-go, resolution can take longer. Let’s say you took your food and left the area.
Once you notice something is wrong, you’ll need to head back, possibly wait in a line again, then speak to a very busy Cast Member who will then do their best to make sure your issue is taken care of as soon as they can. For something that’s supposed to save time, to-go food can end up being a time consumer if an issue pops up.

Of course, finding problems with your order isn’t the norm, so you won’t have this issue constantly. But when it does happen…oh boy, is it a pain.
