It’s Official. This Is My NEW Favorite Spot to Hang Out in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

We just found one of the best hidden hangout spots in all of Hollywood Studios— and we’re kind of obsessed.

There’s a little shaded area in Animation Courtyard that has become our new go-to chill zone. It’s low-key, quiet, and comes with a surprise perk — character sightings you can’t get anywhere else. If you need a break in Hollywood Studios but don’t want to miss out on the action, this might be your new favorite spot, too.

The Secret Spot You’ll Walk Right Past If You’re Not Looking

Right now, Disney’s kicking off something called Cool KID SUMMER, and it runs from May 27th through September 1st. It’s basically a resort-wide celebration packed with pop-up entertainment, roaming characters, and fun surprises across all four parks.

In Hollywood Studios, the heart of the action is happening at Animation Courtyard. This whole area has been transformed into a colorful, high-energy zone with DJs, magicians, jump rope acts, games, and character dance parties. But while most people are caught up in the action out front, there’s a secret gem hiding just behind the “Get Animated” sign — and it’s officially our new favorite hangout.

So… What’s So Special About It?

Let’s start with the obvious: shade. In a park that can turn into a furnace by midday, finding a shaded, quiet place to sit is like finding treasure. The picnic tables here are mostly under a covered balcony, which means you can sit, snack, and actually feel a breeze while the rest of the park sizzles.

And here’s where it gets even better — you’re right by a backstage entrance. Which means characters come and go from this area all day long. We saw Max. We saw Clarabelle. We saw Chip and Dale. They just casually walked by, waved, interacted with a few guests, and kept moving. It’s the kind of spontaneous Disney magic that’s actually kind of rare these days.

You’re basically people-watching with a side of surprise character cameos. Not mad about it.

The Best Place to Recharge (Without Leaving the Fun)

We’ve spent a lot of time in Hollywood Studios, and this is one of the only spots we’ve found that gives you a true break without totally pulling you out of the experience. You can still hear the music from the DJ, you’re just steps away from the crafts and games, and the jump rope team (called Jumpin’ Beans) might even be performing nearby. It’s a vibe.

We’ve also spotted cast members teaching kids how to jump rope, doing magic tricks, and leading little pop-up shows in the middle of the courtyard. The indoor DJ dance party is a great stop for kids, and the fact that it’s air-conditioned makes it even better.

But for us? Grabbing a shaded table and watching the chaos unfold from a comfy distance is our new happy place.

Whether you’re on your 10th trip to the parks or your very first, this is one of those spots that can make your day a little smoother. So if you find yourself in Hollywood Studios this summer, do yourself a favor—head to Animation Courtyard, look for the “Get Animated” sign, and sneak around back. We’ll probably be sitting there already.
