4 Disney World Rides Are Closed…With No Reopening Date in Sight

Disney World is no stranger to ride closures, but some of them are sticking around a little longer than we’d like.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is now closed

When planning your vacation, you expect some temporary refurbishments, but there are a handful of attractions that are currently closed with no concrete reopening date in sight. If you’re heading to the parks soon, you might want to double-check your must-do list to avoid disappointment. Let’s take a look at four Disney World rides that are closed with no reopening date (for now).

Astro Orbiter

Magic Kingdom’s Astro Orbiter is currently grounded, and while Disney has announced a summer 2025 return, there’s no official reopening date listed.

Astro Orbiter is closed for refurbishment

This Tomorrowland classic offers some of the best views of the park, so its absence is definitely felt especially by those looking for a nostalgic, high-flying experience. If you were hoping to take a spin on these rocket ships, you’ll have to wait and see exactly when in summer 2025 they’ll be back in orbit.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

This one hurts. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, one of Magic Kingdom’s most beloved coasters, is down for a lengthy refurbishment and isn’t expected to return until 2026. They actually say this on the site: “The attraction will reopen with a little bit of new magic in 2026.”

That means we’ll be waiting a while before we get to ride the wildest ride in the wilderness again. If Big Thunder is a must-do for your trips, it might be time to start planning a visit for late 2026… just to be safe.

Hall of Presidents

Over in Liberty Square, the Hall of Presidents is closed, with Disney stating it will reopen “later in 2025.” Again, that’s not a specific date, and history tells us that these closures can sometimes stretch beyond initial estimates.

If you were hoping for some air conditioning and a bit of history, you might have to settle for the Carousel of Progress instead.

Test Track

EPCOT’s Test Track is in the midst of a major reimagining, and while Disney has teased a late summer reopening, we’re still waiting for a firm date.

This overhaul promises a fresh take on the ride, but if you’re planning a visit in the coming months, you may have to find another thrill ride to scratch that speed-loving itch. In the meantime, Mission: SPACE and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind might be your best alternatives.

While closures are always a bummer, they usually mean updates, improvements, or completely new experiences are on the way. Until then, we’ll be keeping an eye on Disney for reopening announcements, and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything!
